German export model 238B arrives from Belgium
    The globe is cracked.
Fuel is rotting. It smells so bad, I think I'm going to collapse.
Disassemble it and throw in a rust bath.
Do your best to get it ignited.

Try to rinse the tank with (warm or hot) drain cleaner or caustic soda (lye). This will dissolve fuel residues quickly. Beware of applying the lye to aluminum or lacquered components, as it will also dissolve Aluminium or lacquer quickly. But it will leave any chrome/nickel/brass/steel components very clean.

Very well done for this unusual and rare lantern. The generator is always interesting and different. Great to see it running.:clap::clap:

    Very nice restauration, congrats!
I don't know why you call this a "German export model". It has nothing to do with Germany. These lanterns were made by Coleman Canada company expresly for the Belgian armee. Therefor it has the text in both french and flemish (dutch) on the collar. As the Belgian armee is rather small, these lanterns are quite rare! As far as I know, only one batch was made early 1950s, late 1950s the armee switched to Petromax lanterns.

    Best regards,

    Wim

Beautiful lantern and a great work to make it shine and light. What is natural rust remover please? Thanks
