Hi All, new here but have lurked for a while. I need some help. I have what I think is a Knight Sunray 321. When I go to light it I get raw fuel from the top of the generator, and naturally it produces some nice flame balls. When I took the generator apart I noticed there was nothing in it. Just a hollow tube. I tried bronze wool, cotton yarn, and flat copper as a packing but nothing cured it. Anyone know where I can get a new generator or help with guidance on how to get this running? I've done a couple of lamps, and a lot of lanterns. I'm just stuck here. Never even seen a generator like this one. It has 321 stamped on it. I've attached pictures. Advanced thank you for any help.
Welcome, @Timothy Cox. These generators were usually packed (not tight) with asbestos rope or similar. "Old Coleman Parts" in the US has replica generators for Gloria/Knight lamps. I've refurbished a few of these with new asbestos packing; and I've also bought a couple of the Old Coleman Parts generators and they work well. Cheers Tony
Thanks for the info. I am not an asbestos fan. My wife has mesothelioma. I looked at the generator on Old Coleman Parts but can tell if it's threaded on the tapered tip. Do you know if it is?
Yes: I use asbestos with the utmost caution. You could try fibreglass as an alternative. The bottom of the OCP generator end is tapered and threaded. Best regards Tony
Welcome to CPL @Timothy Cox A nice lamp, congratulations These types of generators require more preheating than the average Coleman. Just a thought.
Thanks. I can't wait to use it. I had the same thought for preheating, but nothing helped. The lack of packing is my guess. I just ordered the replacement generator. Keeping my fingers crossed.
@Timothy Cox If you look carefully through this thread, you can see that the featured Gloria is using one of the OCP generators in the photos of it running. Gloria Table Lamp (Australia; listed as AO in PLC) Cheers Tony
Buy a repop from OCP and use that as a guide for repacking the orig gen. If you fear using, or dont have/cant get asbestos I’d suggest bronze wool as a packing medium.
