I do love this Forum as you can meet friends here with the same interest, which can develop into great friendships. Also its great to swap lamps, and get friends to pick up lamps for you in other country's that you have payed for as well. In the first year of being on this Forum, we were given a couple of lamps from someone in Australia and I wont say names they know who they are, then members from the UK and USA helped me out too. In return I have done the same by giving lamps away and also trading lamps, a few of my lamps have made their way to some of my friends in other country's. This I owe to the Forum and its members, also the information and help with problems from so many members here, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I have tried to buy lamps from the UK before and they always get confiscated by the Global Shipping Company. I have even told people not to send via this company or at least Don't put Pressure Lamps on the Declaration for this particular Company (Just put lamp parts or Tanks). I dont have problems getting lamps into Australia with other Courier Company's. People just dont listen and the sad part is the lamp is gone forever, lucky for me at least I get my money back, but I would rather the lamp. So now I dont even waste my time with these people who use this Company, as I dont want the lamps to be confiscated as other people can have the lamp rather than no one at all. Anyway this is where my friends come in handy and I have a few on this Forum that have helped me out, I in turn have helped them out as well. Now its time to see what has arrived at my front door. So what we have here is a Tilley X246 Guardsman with Gold Fount and Brown hood which are very hard to find in Australia, PL53 1940's, TL10 1940's, Two Table Lamp Gallery's, a burner for my R1 Conversion Lamp, a Wire Guard for my AL8 Track Lamp, and last of all a Stove Kit. Just wonderful I say as I am so excited to get all these parts together. A massive thank you to my mate who has helped and arranged for all of this to happen, you know who you are and so do I, that is all that matters, I dont want to put you on the spot. Now to see what I have done with these lamps and spare parts, I have joined these parts together with my spare parts lets us see the outcome so far, I hope you are still with me, if not sorry for the long story but it had to be said to show my appreciation. All are complete except the PL53 of course, the search will continue for the PL53 hood and Globe holder Thank you for looking.
I have had this happen a couple of times too and I sympathise with you and I also won't risk it now. BUT one of the things I purchased and had been confiscated, did turn up online again, for sale. but from a different person to the one who sold it to me originally. Worth noting this fact. Puzzled me at the time. Lastly, you have some nice stuff there. Well done.
Hello all, just an update on my Tilley PL53, I have managed to find a hood and globe holder. The fount was pretty ugly, so of course I polished it up, just a rough polish as we will be filling the dint in and painting the fount in gold. The dint is just too big for my liking. I would love to have keep her in brass, but unfortunately the dint is just too big for my liking. We will just paint the fount and keep the bail, pump, and control cock valve in brass, I will also change the globe holder to a new one. I believe she will look alot better, than as in found condition. Here are some updated photos. Thanks for looking.
Looks good. I have two 53 tanks up to the vaporizers. Hopefully will find the uppers one day as they are not common here.
Michael and I tried a few times a couple of years ago on an X246, but with no results. We even tried different ways, for example filling up half way, then freezing, then more water, but we just couldn't get it to work. Maybe it's because of the pressure pip mechanism inside the fount? So we gave up on that idea, as we couldn't get a result. Perhaps we were doing it wrong?
Same here, they are like finding hens teeth. It was just luck that I came across a later PL53, so I still have another one without the top half. You can get aftermarket parts from Julian Shaw, in the UK.
