Hello everyone and welcome to those reading this. By chance I came into possession of a Bialaddin (Vapalux?) 320 in excellent condition. It is my first British-made lamp; a lamp that I have never looked favorably on especially due to the near impossibility of finding spare parts, but now that I have it in front of me I must admit that the construction is well made overall. Not being very familiar with this type of lamp I don't know where to start: whether to dismantle it for a quick clean or try to light it for the first time straight away. I would like to know more about how to proceed. For example, are the mantles for gas lamps (the ones with two holes) ok? I read on the forum that these lamps are now made in Korea (?) but I think mine is an original English one but I don't know the year of manufacture. What suggestions can you give me? Where can I possibly get spare parts if I need them? P.S. If I exaggerated with the photos please excuse me Thanks everyone and happy lighting
@onafest Great find I always change all the seals now just to eliminate niggles later when fettling but as they may be harder to come by near you just do a bubble check/dunk test under pressure/no fuel and see what you have? regards, pb the dots under the tank are a date code Do a search for ‘Bialaddin date code’ and scroll down, it’s the 7th thread and it’s called ‘Dating bialaddin’ should confirm your lamp is 8th month of ‘67
Hi, damn dated 1967, I would not have imagined it (I thought it was from the early 80s for the excellent conditions) and above all thanks for your tip. I will do as you suggested, I only have a doubt about the mantle (which type to use). I will post the ignition here with a photo. Regard
Fettlebox for seals. www.base-camp.co.uk have a good range of spares but shipping may be cheaper from: Fotoübersicht: Vapalux Starklichtlampen -Ersatzteile- - hytta.de Mantles: Detailseite: Ersatzteile Vapalux/Bialaddin- - hytta.de but any twin-tie 300 mantle you must tie yourself (loose tie) will do.
