Obtained on LBC (Le Bon Coin, an online sales site). Unfortunately the hood is missing Can someone tell me if it is identical to that of a 1020 or any other Primus lamp?
That is a very interesting lamp. As you say, it is a 981, but I have never seen this number on a soldered on tag. The lamps with soldered on tags are usually the alcohol versions and the alcohol version of the 981 is the 1381. The green wheel is also new to me. The wheel definitely looks like the correct design for the 981 but the 981 wheel is black. The alcohol versions often have a green wheel, but it is a dark green. The 1381 has the same size wheel as a 991 or 1020 as it does not have the positive shut off valve that the 981 has. All in all a very interesting lamp and I would like to know more about it. As for the top hat, it is unique to the 980 and 981 (as well as the 1380 and 1381) and not easy to find. An alternative can be used to make it more presentable, but the correct item is not available (that I know of). What year is it from?
@Andrew T , thank's @Nils Stephenson , it's from 1943 (AH) I don't have the lamp yet, the transaction is in progress.
I used a brass bowl on the top . Be careful when cleaning the vent, the nickel plating rubs off very easily on the 981.
@Andrew T , good idea ! The lamp arrived this afternoon. I started disassembling it, but I don't remember how to disassemble the needle control. Help please !!!
I couldn't have said it better myself. Unfortunately I can't get at my 981s at the moment to take some photos.
Do i have to remove this screw to remove the needle control shaft? I don't remember what i do on my 1081 ...
Yes . This holds a spring against the rack to keep it tight against the pinion. Remove the cap bolt and spring and the rack can then be removed easily .
Thank's @Andrew T I'll do that Tuesday, i'll be in holidays, for 6 weeks, but 4 weeks of technical unemployment
I started cleaning and the outside nickel plating has gone. Only the inside is still here. Pictures soon !
Hi all. Some news and pictures. I'm sorry to the purists, but I like the contrast between nickel and brass. I'm considering making a brass top, rather than the (unobtainable) enameled original. Gilles
I've a little pressure leak, try to find it. Also i'll try an other mantle, this one is a chinese Peerless 500CP, and too big.
@MYN , I don't know, it's a name I use because these mantles have the same weave as the Peerless, as well as the color code. I am aware that these are copies or manufacturing rejects. They are easily found and at a good price on Ebay. 10er Glühstrümpfe Glühstrumpf für Gaslaterne Gaslampen Outdoor Campingkocher . | eBay And also on Aliexpress Je viens de trouver ça sur AliExpress : 4,00€ | Manteaux de Lanterne à Gaz de Camping en Maille de Gaze, Lumière au Propane en Forme de U, Manteau de Lampe, Couverture de Lanterne de Camping en Plein Air, 20 Pièces https://a.aliexpress.com/_Ewv85A4
Ah, I see... I usually refer these as genuine generic 'Chinese-mades' rather than copies. With or without brands. Peerless mantles would come in their distinguished packages with full labelling, brand name and traceable to the manufacturer (Indo Auerlicht in India currently or Philippines for earlier ones).
I think I found the source of my problem. The depressurization screw, I just had the case on my Bialaddin 320. Loss of pressure when everything was normal since I had it. Simply the screw not tightened properly !!! I'll look on the Primus tomorrow. Good evening to all ! Gilles
Hi everyone, The leak wasn't coming from the pressure relief screw, but from the Rapid's stuffing box. I hadn't done the leak test in the bucket of water..... . I do it yesterday.... I added a little graphite, and now it's working properly. One hour without a single pump stroke.
