Yes it's great news that you are out of hospital.
Looking forward to seeing your new Tilley lamp, I presume it's a X246B.

It is another X246B, complete with box and it's never been litted, but that's all going to change... :D/

I've just tried lighting the new lamp, and it's just burning very low there seems to be a blockage somewhere... :-k
So I'm going to leave things just now until it's been fettled by John, @Jean J's other half next week.
    Regards Sammi Jane xXx

I've just bought four of the leather cup washers from Fettlebox, but I didn't see the subscriber's discount applied, :-k

Nor me the last time I bought anything from the Fettlebox - probably about 10 years ago now I would think. I simply couldn't be bothered to chase it...

Same here David, if it appears, great.! If not it's less than a quid, so as you say it's not worth the hassle.

Well, sorry, but being a true Aberdonian (unlike @Sammi Jane) I did chase it and was given the discount without any hassle. Thank you Fettlebox.

There is a discount code available as shown on the screenshot below. Enter that at checkout & the discount is applied. The banner doesn't show when viewed on a mobile device (unless in 'Desktop View') & I think that may be the issue for more people now.

I'll take a look at setting it up so it's visible on mobile.

You have scroll down to it under the Fettlebox banner on the home or forums page.

Click where it says and I suppose your member status is checked. If OK there is a code to carry over to the fettlebox site.

Having it written in grey doesn't exactly make it stand out. :-k

The link remains by the banner but I have also created a section in the Trading Post for The Fettlebox with a sticky post containing a link to the discount code.

Having litted my other X246B lantern today, I think that because Ted is a lot brighter he must be a 500 cp variant. :-k

Is the spigot on the burner noticeably longer than on your other lamps?

    IMG_3737.jpeg

If they are different then it probably is a 500 series burner
If they are the same then it could be down to the condition/age of the burner/vapouriser.. different makes of mantles can be markedly different?
even standard Tilley 164x types can vary in brightness with different hues/colours

    hours of fun

I'll have a good look tomorrow once they've cooled down. :-k
I'm going to have to swap out the leather washer in Bill's pump as it's playing up. :(
As is the brand new pump I bought from Tilley, because the NRV isn't... :rage:
I'll have to call up tomorrow and have words with them... [-X

Well there's a surprise!

With the X246B especially, I've found that after a settling in period, sometimes the vapouriser, burner and mantle just seem to 'like' each other and you get exceptional light output - maybe even approaching the advertised 300cp. But change one of those three and light output will reduce. Neil McRae measured the general light output of the average X246B as around 180cp.

I found the 500 series a bit of a con - did Tilley ever claim 500cp? You had a larger burner spigot to accommodate a larger mantle but the 606 vapouriser was incapable of 'filling it' completely with paraffin vapour even pumping up the lantern to higher pressure - not a good thing with the inverted base tanks.

Seriously, get yourself a Bialaddin / Vapalux lantern. Try the 320 maybe - there are plenty still about at reasonable prices. The NATO specification was excellent and Bairstow Bros (1985) Ltd made thousands of them for military use...

It would be interesting to try that particular spigot in the older, taller, burner head (from a Guardsman) with a 169 vapouriser. I'm currently building a BR49A bitsa, so I might have a go at that. Has anyone else tried such??

Well I found out what the problem with the pump was, the leather washer had become detached, so a new one has been fitted. :D/
As for calling Tilley, I left it too late in the day, and there was nobody at home...

I've also changed the washer in the NRV, which is the piston variety.

They're extremely laid back, bless em'. Quite why it takes them 7 or 8 working days to despatch 4 vapourisers they apparently have 'in stock' is beyond me. Must be all those international sales that keep em busy, clearly....
