eBay is now forcing all private sellers to use their "simple delivery" service. This means that if you sell a lamp on eBay the courier will get a very clear description of what you are sending with whatever keywords you were using in your listing e.g. Paraffin. No more sending a "lamp". It also means the only delivery firms on offer are Evri and Royal Mail. Currently you can exclude Royal Mail but I wonder how long that will last.

I exclude Evri because they are awful, RM haven't let me down yet!

I wondered about that @James but haven’t sent a lamp for a while. Has anyone here had a lamp or stove refused, returned or destroyed after using eBay’s simple delivery?

It all sounds a bit ominous..

i had a quick look ..there is the option of custom postage instead of this ‘simple’ option ?

I hate ebuy nowadays because of their ripoff payment terms.

Do you have a business seller account, as custom postage is still allowed for business sellers. Also what category were you listing in as custom postage is still allowed for low-value items (less than around £10 I think) and certain categories that typically contain small low-value items e.g. postcards, DVDs. Are you using the phone app, as custom postage is still showing on the phone app, but I doubt that will last for long.

Oh more joy, I selected "Royal Mail" as the only courier for an item (not a lamp) as I didn't want it thrown over a fence, and eBay sent me a label for Evri. So they can ignore your preferences for which courier you want to use.

OMG, I’m just getting a lamp ready to list but what choice do I have if I need to sell?

    Hi James,
yes i am using the phone app as i dont have wifi..
this news is all a bit disturbing but i appreciate you posting it here as i haven’t heard from ebay about any changes to shipping ?

    thanks @James :thumbup::thumbup:

    edit: @Jean J
i just checked a draft i had as an example, say for a tilley heater with a 2kg weight medium parcel and i was still able to custom choose other options instead of evri, yodel or RM if needed ?
The option to arrange your own courier seems to have disappeared though? i don’t know if it is still there for an international option??

ps. sending a different label sounds odd??
i don’t have a printer.. i have always got my label printed with the shop so maybe that is a way round it?

    Simple Delivery | eBay

Yeah I think the app hasn't caught up with the website so I guess we can still use that for now.

Oh good grief.. what’s the matter with them?
Its like theyre deliberately doing that for a specific reason ??

    thanks James

edit : hmm, after reading that, the reason seems to me to make it ‘simpler’ for them not us!

this might be the last straw for me.. has anyone tried other online selling sites at all?

I refuse to sell on eBay, they want to have all of my bank account details and that's just too much information to hand over. [-X
