Hey all, I'm new to collecting pressure lamps and just joined. My working lanterns are a 1977 Coleman 200a, a 1946 228c, a 1920 Quick Lite 327, 1925 Quick Lite 427, and a 1936 Quick Lite 131p lamp. My current WIP is an undated Petromax 829 500CP. I have a bunch of replacement wear parts showing up soon, and also have a new rapid preheater assembly (BLOWTORCH) coming as the one on it is bent and won't seal. I also have a pile of assorted Quick Lite lantern parts and one more 327 coming. This new one shouldn't require much refurbishing, it's really nice. I also have a 242b coming that's going to need some work. Here's a pic of the working lanterns and lamp from tonight. Happy Sunday! I'm sure getting the 242b working will be a non-issue, but here's hoping I don't start myself on fire with the Petromax (lol)! I don't have a pic of my own of the Petromax as all the parts are off of it and disassembled, living in a ziplock bag. I did attach one that I was sent before I bought it. I've cleaned it up substantially since then. The hood and the top cap are very much blued from years of heat; I'm not sure how or even if I can get that off. I suspect it's permanent. Hello @Ophidia and welcome to the forum! Nice collection that you have there! The lantern on your 2nd picture is a Lightning Bug from HC lanterns, made based on some Petromax parts, but modified for considerably higher light output by the Amish manufacturer.
It does have Petromax, Made in Germany stamped on the fount, but I do know it was modified by the Amish and the person I bought it from bought it from them. The tire valve on the fount is the only modification that I see with my novice eyes, though I notice the unmarked collar is totally different from what I've seen in pics of this lantern online. What else can I look for as far as modifications? It polished up nicely (except for the hat) and I'm excited to get it fired up!
Just look at other pictures of Petromax lanterns that can be found here in the reference gallery. There are plenty of modifications as you will find out.
Welcome to the group! the lantern in your second picture was modified for the Amish market and can be found in Petromax and Hipólito stamped founts. I have both and in this configuration the globe can be taken off without taken out the inner hood.
