I know there are basically 2 types of pre heater torches for the tilley x246 lamps, there's the (I presume later style) push on and there's the clamp on: Push on: Clamp on: However I was watching this youtube video of someone doing up a x246b, and he uses a very different style clamp on preheater torch, quite wacky looking spring loaded. It looks too good to be home made. It can be seen very briefly in this video around the 1:11 mark: Does anyone know which make/model pre heater this is, or where it's made and maybe if it's for sale somewhere?
I looked but it seems to me it splits open just like the standard one which is tried and tested. It may well be a slightly different version made in South Korea.
Yes it splits open just like the clamp on butterfly style torch, but it has a different construction. Different materials by the looks of it, and the clamping is an integrated coil spring type. So it's aesthetics is quite different. I couldn't find a picture of it or a sales listing anywhere, but I might not have looked well enough of course. I could of course ask it in the comments of that video, but everything about that guy's channel is in some kind of asian language of which I don't even recognize the writing characters (maybe thai or cambodian/khmer or so...), so I wonder if he'd answer
Hi @GuidoK the far east collectors have put their own signature on different lamps & lanterns.. Tilley and Primus, for example, and they have made close copies of lots of parts, but making sure their copies are distinctly recognisable? Try and find the Kitelamp website.. it’s a labour of love they are also very friendly and helpful? im sure they would reply to any questions you have best regards pb
Kitelamp indeed also have their own version of preheater. But that is a push on style preheater and not the butterfly style clamp on preheater from my video Kitelamp:
Hi Guidok sorry for the misunderstanding ; i was just referencing Kitelamp.. trying to be helpful? if that was me i would message the maker of the video ;-) best wishes pb
I've also messaged him about a week ago. He has another video where the preheater can be seen a little bit better/longer. In this video at 7:20:
