Jeff, that's actually quite common. The little ball in the check valve seldom seals completely, so if you don't screw the needle down after pumping, this little flame can be lit. It's like that on several of my Colemans'.
Like Carlsson mentioned , fairly common when the check ball inside the fuel plug isn't completely clean/ sealing . Some of my Coleman Quicklite's did it and my AGM 334 still does it . Usually 1 cycle in the ultrasonic cleaner clears that up
