Found this at a local scrap metal dealer today. Looks like there is a missing wick inside the tank and a piece of the filler cap chain is missing. Not too much information on it on the Internet. It is stamped "Auto Union" "DRGM" "LA 30" I did find a video on YouTube but there is no dialogue.
Auto Union - successor to Horch, predecessor to Audi. I doubt it was for this engine, but here's one of the more famous Auto Union products.
Probably not, Reese, but evidently Auto Union’s race pit mechanics played blowtorches on some strategic external locations of those engines to warm them up sufficiently to start them. Mechanical clearances were so fine they required that measure of mollycoddling to start up without seizing. John
