I have just brought my first couple of tilley lights and one of them I got relatively cheap because it does not have the globe. I found a couple places in Australia that sells them and they are about $40-55 aud plus post. In the off chance I checked Facebook market place and low and behold I found more 2 tilley lamps for $50 both with glass globes. So I have brought them as potential donors as they were cheaper than buying just the globe. In hindsight i guess I am still going to be chasing a globe
@JEFF JOHNSON Looks like I need to find more spare time I had three more turn up today. One had a very ordinary looking hood but had the glass intact. So I swapped it over to the one without a glass but ok hood. The other had a glass and an OK hood. So now have 2 ok and one without a glass and a pretty ordinary hood. These ones are not including the ones above. Guess I need more service kits and mantles. Wife's seems really happy. NOT she really does not like the smell of kerosene. lol I still can not tell the difference between them. I will get there eventually. My latest acquisitions:
The lamping bug has bitten you for sure! The two lanterns which are shown in the first photo in this thread are early 1950's Tilley Guardsman lanterns, circa 1950 to 1953. The first lantern in the photo which shows three lanterns is also an early Tilley Guardsman lantern, circa 1950 to 1953. The second lantern is a later Tilley Guardsman lantern, circa 1954 to about 1960, check the base plate of the tank for a date code, Tilley started to date code their lanterns late in 1956. The third lantern is a Tilley X-246-B lantern and it will have a date code on it's base plate.
I had to laugh when I read your post @Sledge this was exactly how I started, bought my first Tilley lamp missing its globe, went on to buy another with a globe which went on to the first lamp which left me still a globe short. Not sure if I ever evened things out, just kept on buying. Happy days!
@JEFF JOHNSON @ROBBO55 Thanks guys for your assistance and help. @Jean J I am glad I could find amusement for you. Perhaps i can find some more, I was looking on the bottom of of the lamp i pieced together and when I turned it upside down the hood and globe fell out breaking the globe into pieces. So now I need another globe. Guess you know what that means.....
