@David Shouksmith made me chuckle thinking of Ross sat typing all the bad words that he's knows into the banned word box. If we all type the ones we know into this post, then we could help him with the ones not already censored.
Not bloody likely Matt - I need some outlet for those special occasions. Like when ******* DPD don't collect a ******* parcel I've left at one of their ******* drop-off shops for four ******* days. Supposed to be ******* next-day delivery. Ba$tard$. Ahem, anyway...
Yeah, on Friday DPD upgraded the parcel to 'Next Day' delivery as compensation for their shit service. So now delivery is on Monday. What part of "next day" don't they understand? Anyway, if it gets there intact on Monday, I suppose we'll have to call it good (although I'll still have a little whinge to Customer Services on Monday morning)...
Hee this is a good one that I missed so far. I ended up here after being temped to post something about extreme misuse of apostophes. The other which commonly raises my blood pressure is the (non) verb "to gift" and the declensions of it. That one is worst when used by people from this side of the pond. On the other side... I don't like it but at least I can make allowances. "I was gifted" and it's derivatives are not profane, just horrible. The verb is "To give" I give , you give, he gives, we give, they give, you give....a gift. I gave, you gave etc I was/have been given... is it so hard? Simples
The old site did as well. Not worth me typing a list of the 8 banned words as they won't appear! Bastards isn't among them? Go for it!
Well, what I found was that if you put 'ing' on the end, it mostly got through. Anyway, the most impressive (if not imaginative) use of profane language I ever heard was a bloke I worked with who was upset because his car had failed the MOT. I asked him what was wrong and he said, "The ******* wipers are ******* ******." - 50% profanity in a sentence takes some doing... Edit - better make that 9 words, Ross...
please add the following: Electricity Up Cycle (aka vandalise, destroy, deface) Re Purpose (see Up Cycle)
Surely that should be electrocution? Electrification consists of erecting sticks and high voltage string along railway lines.
Sorry if I used the wrong term. I meant electrifying a kerosene lamp or lantern by drilling holes in it to lay electric cables and install a light bulb. On this side of the channel we call this procedure "Elektrifizierung", which also denotes high voltage strings along railways that you mentioned or the change from gas driven street lighting to electrical lighting in the past.
Sorry StephanE I think my sense of humour has been lost in translation. Electrocution often results in death and in the case of pressure lamps conversion to electricity always results in death for that lamp
@DP2 Haha, yes indeed. I saw a listing on ebay yesterday that didn't use the words you mention but they should have. I'm talking about vandalise, destroy and deface. The listing boasted they had a 100% genuine antique gas lamp that had been fully restored. How the seller could honestly think that converting the lamp to bulbs, wires and switches was restoring the lamp, fully or otherwise, is beyond me. @StephanE Stephan, Electrification is high on my list of putrid words. The word I despise the most when used as it so often is these days to describe a lamp that has been converted to electricity is, electrified. Who in their right mind would want to turn a lamp on that would be electrified? I can understand using electrified fences to stop stock from pushing through them. I can understand having electrified fences around a jail to stop prisoners climbing them. I can't understand why anyone would want to have a lamp with electricity cursing through it so it is electrified.
I'm an electrician. If electricity, electrification, electr...something has anything to do with 'profane language' here, then you can guess that I'm the profane guy. Check it out: a profanist? I speak in profane language . Profanities' all about what I do. Can you imagine a World without profane language?
Speaking of which... all that weird stuff from yesterday in the open forum has disappeared without trace. Well done the mods!
Thanks. That particular person is a tiresome one. He (she? Nah, I doubt it...) pop up now and then, both here and on CCS, with the same old drivel. Funny that he even bothers again and again... I mean, it take some effort to register under a new name and post all the crap, and that while still knowing he will be removed within the hour. Some people really need to get a better life...
