Find it Fix it Drive it on More4 21:00 tomorow night 29th May. I have no idea what it will show but they spent 4 hours filming me about a month ago. At a guess maybe two or three minutes but it might be of some interest. ::Neil::
Interesting. It looks like it's possible to see old episodes also in foreign countries (after a quick registration), so tomorrows episode (episode 10) will probably be available in a couple of days. Find It, Fix It, Drive It - Episode Guide - All 4 or Find It, Fix It, Drive It - All 4
Odd thing is they told me it would be on another program, Find it Fix it Flog It. I don't know why the change but I am rather pleased because FIFIF deals with 8 items so there is not much air time for any one item. The drive it program normally features just one item so they have obviously shoe horned the FL6 in somehow. Could be the better for it. We shall see. Could also be massively embarrassing of course. Still at my age I don't care if I look stupid or not. It was an interesting old FL6 as well. It had been stored with a full tank for so long all the fuel was gone and the inside was varnished a gloss black with the residue which has preserved the inside rather well. I think it was a WW2 period lamp because there was no fuel level gauge and they only left stuff off when materiel was scarce. I don't remember seeing the gauge missing before so an uncommon example. I actually also fettled a Guardsman for the cameraman. That was after filming was over but he was pretty keen and intended to try to buy the FL6 when it was being offered for sale. ::Neil::
@Mackburner I'll have to set the old box to record it as I should by that time be at Newark. Regards Jeremy
Yes you did. You brought me one from the late ?? I recall that you said "It's an odd one because it's missing the fuel indicator."
I remember clearly stuff from 50 years ago but between then and last week is a kinda blur. So two then? Makes sense because there had to be a batch from whenever. Mid 1940s seem to be about right. ::Neil::
@Mackburner Great to watch. Very interested to hear the presenter say he knows a “geezer” who restores Tilleys which were invented in 1819 and used greatly during WWI. By the way when did you change your name to Smith? The illuminated tractor frame was tat and the Ducati was interesting, however it is a shame they didn’t consult you on the Tilley facts first. Still, nice to see you and some of your collection on TV. Many thanks. Regards Jeremy
Only a slight distortion of the facts. They did know the basic history 'cos I gave them that on film. They also knew my correct name. I suppose it is the same old thing of not letting the facts get in the way of a good tale. Smith I suspect was to give a degree of anonymity. Yeah there are a lot of lamps in that shed. Some are OK but there are a lot that have suffered from being in a much older damp and rat infested shed for some time. Had that shed built new last year to try to preserve them a bit better. Probably just under half the collection in there and mostly lanterns. Most of the hanging and indoor stuff is in the house or a couple of other outhouses. To dream about? Yeah perhaps but there are lamps in there I gathered in 50 odd years ago in 1965. It is not a quick game acquiring so many. Actually it’s nice to let some be seen. I don’t get many visitors so they hardly get seen any more. That FL6 was in good condition but everything was seized. The only thing missing was the bolts to hold the reflector in. That was just floating loose. I had to use a little heat and a big pipe wrench to get the pump out. The inside was varnished with old fuel residue. I reckon it had been stored full so long ago all the fuel had evaporated. It was like a nice black gloss paint. Mind you that varnish had probably gone a long way to protect the inside from rust. I had to de-solder the end of the pump tube so I could heat the fitting to get the NRV out and then solder it back. Easy enough then to fit new seals and pump leather and make it run. Just as well I had made a couple of pump leathers a few days before though. I got plenty of service parts here but I almost never need FL6 pump leathers and I was out of those. ::Neil::
Well, 'diamond geezer' if you ask me! I haven't watched it yet so that's something to look forward to when I get in from my walk. I set the alarm, Neil (although I woke up 15 minutes before it went off) - what's your excuse for being up at this God-forsaken hour? Is there an emoticon of a sparrow farting...
Marching to a different drummer. I rarely retire before 4am. He doesn't know me at all. They found me on here when Pip Froud was asking about the lamp. I never met any of them except camera and sound guys. ::Neil::
Nah! That went south... After making the registration, all seemed to be accepted, but as soon as I tried to watch, they finally told me that the show only was available within the UK. They could have pointed that out in the initial registration stage...
Well I enjoyed it very much and you came across very well. The bike was very cool but he got stung with perspex tractor sign..hundred quid..more like £25. The FL6 was a bargain. Martin
