Hi Folks, I recently bought some of this wpro 'oven and grill cleaner' to revive my old kitchen cooker. I tried it on a plated table lamp gallery that was black with use and it worked a treat. I gave it a spray and left it for five minutes (for cleaning cookers they say leave for two hours) and it took all the grot off with one application. I haven't tried it yet on other parts, though I suspect it will work just as well. Stevie
Most of the time they contains some kind of acid which you should neutralise after use. Emaille or stainless ovens are of a different kind.
Using some chemicals in brass and leaving it on too long can make the brass go pink and I think brittle as well. I do use BBQ and oven cleaners but I get it off as soon as I can and wash it thoroughly afterwards. @BigStevie I would be interested in seeing a test bit of brass after your cleaner has been on it for an hour. Would be good to know.
I've not tried it myself but there is a rather large following recommending Harpic Power Plus bleach gel...just do a YouTube search on 'harpic exhaust cleaning' the video's are pretty amazing for steel and stainless steel so I don"t see why it wouldn't work for other metals. And it's cheap!!
If I'm not wrong, that's a product from Whirlpool. I've seen somewhere stating that it contains some potassium hydroxide, some ethoxylated alcohol stuffs with some non-ionic surfactants and perfumed as well. In that case, its alkaline. It'll definitely work well on greasy grimes. I don't think it'll be so for metal oxidations, except those on aluminium or zinc-based items. I won't leave that on painted surfaces.
Update. You're right MYN, has removed grime and built up deposits. hasn't really touched the oxidation on the brass. In conclusion, a great product for removing built up grime and as I stated earlier, worked wonders on the plated parts I treated. Stevie
Haven’t come across this product in Australia, I wonder if it has a different product name here, or even a similar product. Does anyone know?
Thanks for the tip @BigStevie Tried it on a couple of my very filthy old Optimus 300 lamps. The burnt on black grime came away and left the clean nickel plate underneath. Will have to do a before and after photo comparison next time.
