2/300 Austramax

My search is over
I have a 2/300 Austramax, its in good order

 

Awesome find

 

I've never seen an Austramax, Aladdin, Kerona and any other Australian-made lanterns in my part of the World.
Were they ever exported to any part of Southeast Asia in the past?

Austramax were sold in the domestic Australian market; contracted by the armed forces; and sold into the Pacific Islands. Recently, Austramax has been sold wholesale to a company in the USA.

thank you for your comments fellas, I bought a few Austramax just by pictures etc. on the usual sites but I could see this one was just a little different even in a poor picture, I do have a 3/300 its older style but it has a mica globe , dose any one know if this was a regular thing or just something that some one may have just used? when I can ill post a picture of it

I have seen mica globes on Austramax lanterns.

The very early advertisements for Austramax state that they had “Pyrex” glass.

I have wondered whether the mica globe may have been either a military specification, or an option offered by Austramax or dealers like TW Sands.

I knew Lehman's carried the Austramax but I didn't think they were manufacturing them! They are damned expensive! I think if Lehman's wants to have any success selling these, they better think about lowering the price a bit! I have one of those, NOS and I didn't pay even half the amount they want for one!

Garrett Wade (www.garrettwade.com) is also selling the Austramax, and cheaper than Lehman's, but still more than I paid for mine. Garrett Wade use to carry the Vapalux M1 when it was still being made in the UK. They just carry the Austramax pressure lantern now.
Am I in violation of any rules here by using names, etc.? Tried not to quote prices here. You can check website.

@Darryl Durdin I have an early 3/300 that came with a mica globe. As Tony said, maybe these were optional. However they were certainly around.





The mica globe is in very good condition, no holes just some creases.

Well, I'm exactly the opposite.
I could never find my tools or just about anything else, especially when I need them.

 

Everyone to their own. If it works for you then it’s right. I just happen to be a neat freak and that works for me ..... it doesn’t make me better than anyone else.
The name of the game is having fun and sharing with others.

 

Is it correct to assume a mica globe would have been an expensive upgrade?

Kero-scene, The mica globe use to be the inexpensive way to go. Pyrex globes, or for that matter most glass globes are as a rule expensive. Coleman, on some model lanterns gave you a choice. For example, take the Coleman 243. Known as the "poor man's 242", this model was sold with a mica globe. If you wanted a Pyrex glass globe you paid extra! It might have been 25 or 50 US cents difference between the two lanterns but remember, the world was going through the worse depression in modern history so every penny counted.
