Got myself a new Lantern today - a Primus 1020 Date code is AM17 - so I think thats a 1947 model. Good News: Its got the Spirit Cup in there - which often seems to be missing according to many CPL Posts It's in pretty good condition given that it's over 70 years old (can you imagine anything w make today still working in 70 years time) Bad News: Globe is cracked (but still quite solid) The pump is missing! (Initial searches haven't revealed a source for these - any suggestions? FettleBox??) So that's it - I'm not buying any more until I've made a big dent in the number of lamps I've got waiting for Fettling....(Honest - I'm not....)
According to this from our sister site... Primus Dating Chart 1911 - 1964 ...AM is the Primus date code for 1948. In case it was the '17' that led you one year astray, no-one seems to know, definitely, what the numbers refer to. I might (note, might) have a Primus pump-rod etc. on a parts lantern given to me many years ago by another member. Bear with me until tonight - 'work' beckons (and I think we may have had a rather exciting, er, 'delivery' yesterday!)…
My parts lantern still has the pump. Tank I think is from 1937. I'm away from home for a few weeks, send me a PM mid august if you are still looking for it.
Awesome David - Thanks. I'll keep searching, and if I have no luck by mid-August I'll PM you. Thanks again
@Polybus When you get that lantern pulled down and then working, post more photos of it here in this thread for more complete reference. Cheers Tony
Definitely, Jean - safely delivered on Monday, 22nd July, one day earlier than expected, the precious gift of a steam locomotive, weighing 85 tons, 7lb 6oz. All doing well... I'll get round to the Primus lanterns after a bite to eat...
Polybus - I have got a spare complete pump rod for the 1020 lantern for you. Just PM me! David... I though steam locomotives were under the "open forum" /Conny
@David Shouksmith, just wondering, Coleman fuel or kerosene? Seriously, Wow. Hope you have many happy hours with her. Cheers Pete
