One of our member, Neil McRae (Mackburner), has put together a vast compilation - The Pressure Lamp Catalogue - over most known lamp manufacturers in the world, and I can just find one mention of a Rolex there. But it is indeed from India. Made by Rolex Impex Co. in Mumbai That one is a 350 CP lantern, so yours is probably not listed (yet). If it's even associated with the Rolex Impex. I'm sure Neil will chip in with better information, or suggestions, soon. @Mackburner
@ASHOK KUMAR I don’t yet possess a copy of Neil’s PLC however if Carlsson does not know of it you may have found a new brand. Regards Jeremy
Yes I have seen images of a 350CP Rolex lantern. That one has a 1954 pattern rapid preheater blow torch and has the Rolex crown as a logo on the tank. It may not be from the same manufacturer but in truth I just don't know. This one is a model I was not aware of so I will be listing this lantern and for now with the same company as the other. 400cp is rather unusual and suggests someone was copying Aida perhaps in the 1930s. The markings on this lantern are interesting. There is a hint on there with "With -------- Parts". I have seen this before stamped on Indian lanterns and it possibly is "With German Parts" or somethinmg similar. That alone strongly suggests an Indian Made product. I seriously doubt the Rolex watch company even know about these lanterns never mind having any commercial interest. Nice lamp to find. Most interesting. ::Neil::
@Mackburner Another way of reading that lantern inscription is that it reads "With 400cp Parts". Does the other Rolex you've seen images of correspond to that interpretation, ie "With 350cp Parts"? Cheers Tony
Thank you so much @Mackburner , Beautiful detailed explanation you have provided. All your information are awesome. Great Job
@X246A Dear Sir Have a Good day, I saw your lot of Videos in You tube, Great Collection & Restoration
400cp is rather unusual @Mackburner Dear Sir I am Just beginners , I don’t have any knowledge about this lamp. What you mean “ 400cp is rather unusual “ could you light up something detailed on this
Yes most kero lanterns in this Aida/Petromax style from the 1920s and through the 1930s were 200 300 or 500cp. By the 1950s this had changed to 250, 350 and 500cp. Very few lanterns were made at 400cp. There were a few American lanterns made at that power rating and Aida made a 400cp lantern in the late 1920s and early 1930s. It is an unusual size for a Petromax copy. 400cp lanterns turn up in Thailand which are copies of the early Aida lantern but othewise it is an odd size. The German Parts is not from the other Rolex. Indian manufacturers sold a variety of product and would offer lamps as Indian made or "With German Parts" at a premium. I have seen this in catalogues but also stamped on lanterns. It was a desireable selling point which they would mark on the product. This is from a 1955 Wilson catalogue which shows how they sold stuff with German parts. ::Neil::
@Mackburner Thank you so much Mr.Mackburner Beautiful explanation & Excellent knowledge. Thank you catalog with price.
Details of the PLC are here. ::Neil:: https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/the-plc-pressure-lamp-catalogue.13642/
@Mackburner I am a Just beginner, I don't have any experience in repairing the Pressure Lamp. I am trying to learn basic things. So far what ever the lamp I have Purchased , I just made Self Cleaning only. Trying to find out Good mechanic for bring back the Life Piston rusted Heavily Just dismantled and found Made in India. That means it is after 1947 only
That lantern will probably work again. I have seen many lamps in much worse condition brought back to life. I have a few here like that. This one has almost certainly been worked on before as it has a Butterfly filler cap which cannot be original since they are a Singapore and Chinese manufacturer. ::Neil::
@ASHOK KUMAR Many thanks for your kind words. You may find this video useful as the Petromax clones are all fairly similar: Regards Jeremy
