    Hello at all,

I got a HASAG 60 lantern, that lantern comes from

    the Turkey.

The seller wrote me, that HASAG produced for

Ottoman ( a turkey retailer) this lantern.

    The lantern is labeled.

But I am not able to read this.

    These signs are not Arabian.

    Who knows more? 1320386504-Hasag_Persisch_opt.jpg

I had to look up the German word for 'clairvoyant' - it's 'Hellseher'... ;)

It's a bit hard to see the writing, but I do know that they didn't always use latin letters in Turkey. Maybe it's written in the old script?

Can you do a better close up of this script please. I may know a guy who can read this old Turkish and I will copy an image to him if I can have a better view. ::Neil::

Karli, out of curiosity: why do you call it persian in the file name? Did you also got some hints about it being meant for the Iranian market, or there around?

The old Ottoman script was sort of a combination of Persian and Arabic if I get it correct (there's your Persian again ;) ).
    Perhaps Sefa could tell.

    Hi Mates,

I would be happy to read the script. Unfortunately it is unreadable from that show. Is it possible to get a closer photo?

    Hi Mates,

Yes it is fully Ottoman and says:

    "Radium lanterns business organisation.
    Dersaadet - Galata"

(Dersaadet : the old name of Istanbul)
(Galata : a place name in Istanbul)

    Very nice....

    Good job Sefa!

Was this the common writings in Turkey before the republic was formed?

On the first November, 1928, Ataturk introduced the new, European style of writing and banned the old Arabic script. Thus, we may assume that the text on the lamp dates from before 1-11-1928.
