My first Swedish lantern. Acquired it from Arjan in the Netherlands as part of a swap and having cleaned it up, off she went first time! It's a handsome lamp and despite it's 300cp rating, it's very bright! If anyone can tell me how to get the red top off I'd be extremely grateful, and what age is it? I know very little about Optimus lanterns.
Basically it is to remove the screw in the middle. This can actually be a bit tricky as the nut is a metal disc with a threaded hole. These are very hard to hold still while unscrewing the screw. Plenty of penetrating fluid is advised. Btw, the thread is 5/16 W. This is the last variation of the 300P so would be from the last couple of years or so before 1957. If you need more, I've got several duplicates to get rid of.
@george The only reason I wanted to revove the red top was so I could wash it seperately and to get better access to the top of the nickel plating. In the end I worked on it very carefully with by buffing wheel and it was fine. More of a problem was not being able to remove the bail/handle when I polished the frame but again I went very carefully with the handle in place.
I liked the patina look, but buffed up it also shines (Pun intended ) Have fun with it. I'm glad it found a new home.
Arjan, you'll be pleased to know there is still some patina there so it doesn't look completely shiny. It was a joy to fettle and is a lovely addition to my collection.
Colin, This is a very nice addition your collection. It's also running very well indeed. Cheers, Norman
