My collection isn't huge but I'm very pleased with it. The number of models I'd like to add is diminishing thanks to some transatlantic swapping (thanks, Norman) and some recent Chinese (and Hong Kong made) acquisitions. I've tried to keep them in some sort of order but it's not perfect by any means. I'm also running out of space but only the 'pretty' lamps are tolerated in the lounge. That's where I keep my new Optimus 300P and two Bialaddin 315s.
That’s an awesome collection and display. So far I’ve brought 12 lamps, from the shed, and installed them throughout the house with my favourites in the sitting room. My favourites tend to change regularly, but hey, that’s the fun of it. Cheers Pete
That's my office downstairs but it's getting very short on space. The shelf had to be strengthened to take a few more but I always have my three favourite lanterns in the lounge which I rotate like Pete does. Currently it's the Optimus 300P and 2 Bialaddin 315s which are on display.
Very nice Colin! Initially I had the intention to just keep the table lamps, and such, on display on different places inside the home, and keep the lanterns in the shed or garage in the basement where they belong, but "unfortunately" the lanterns outnumber the table lamps by far, and I don't want all lanterns in the basement, so I made a similar setup as yours with shelves in my "office". It's a good way to get them out of the way in an acceptable way for all, but still easy to access. And they actually do make a nice display when lined up from wall to wall like that even if they are outdoor lamps.
@ColinG : I still see white walls so not full yet, also you should not hang the lanterns, but put them on a shelf this increases space for more shelves. Also put the printer and old discman from the desk. They too take lantern space. But nice start.
@WimVe you made me laugh out loud! In fact there may be more shelf building required as I don't think I have quite finished collecting just yet. Maybe some of my fellow members could suggest some lanterns for me to find. I think I have enough Bialaddins and Tilley's but what else should I have?
A few older Vapalux would fit right in and then Evening Star, Kildark and perhaps the harder to find Kitson and Blanchard. All good English makes. ::Neil::

Thinking about it, what I actually need is a few of the more obscure Chinese brands as I clearly haven't got enough! So, if anyone has a... Cat Max Butterfly Penguin (do they actually exist?) Egret Red Heart Solar KWANG-WHA Eveready Silveray Rhino Santrax Tingkwon Unimet Camper or any other unlisted Chinese or Asian lantern ...please let me know! Of course, I'll have to put an extention in the house to fit them in!
Oh they turn up. Not all that often I agree but I have seen all those brands on eBay. ES and Kildark are normally reasonable but Kitson and Blanchard tend to fetch a premium. However I learnt a long time ago not to get stressed about what I didn't have. Just buy what you see when you see it and let the game flow. ::Neil::
Pretty much. I've been using domestic central heating kero and de-smelling it using calcium carbonate but the latest batch didn't work... grrrr!
If I had a light-up like that in my kitchen, I would be looking for another place to live!! Wife would disown me for sure! However, if they were PL53 lanterns she would probably welcome them and throw me out!!She loves those PL53s! Good thing I'v got three and a PL55, too! Moving into that time of year, weather starting to cool and out comes the lanterns.
I wonder what your wife’s attraction to PL53s is, along with the X246b it’s my least favourite Tilley but each to his (or her) own.
I've got a PL53 and two in my workshop waiting to be fettled. They work realy well but the design... it honestly makes me laugh sometimes, sort of like a quick sketch you'd draw on the back of an envelope after having a crazy idea, but they never got round to finishishing it. But I still love them anyway.
At the moment, I have a Coleman L227, L327, L427 and a 228 Slant prominently displayed in my sitting room. It’s kinda nice to just looking at them. As the mood strikes me, I do change the for different lamps/lanterns. Cheers Pete
Nice lamps, well displayed! We have cats and a dog so they would last approximately 5 minutes on a table in our house. The two Coleman with wide hoods are absolute beauties - I'm very envious!

@ColinG the Coleman big hats on my coffee table are a L227 and a 228 Slant. I’m very lucky to have them and as you can see, they take pride of place in my living room. Occasionally I light them up and the resultant ambience is most romantic. Cheers Pete
Beats the hell out of me! Whenever I say I going to light one of my lanterns wifey says, "Oh, why don't you light the Tilley lantern with the brown top?" I know exactly which one she means! She is very sensitive to smells since she is on a lot of different meds (cancer) so she picks up immediately on smells. She says she can't pick up any smells from the PL53, and besides it's "pretty"! Who am I to argue?
Really beautiful lantern collection, Colin. I assume it's your collection room, not your living room. My wife banned the cpl's from living room. But 2 Aladdin lamps and A Feuerhand lantern on the shelf. Glad, at least an electrified Petromax accepted. The true treasures are well preserved in cellar. And occasional lit in the garden.
