Can anyone tell me if the Guardsman came with a brass cage? The one in the photo below is available to me but the cage looks to have been painted. Any thoughts? Screenshot_20190826-105307_eBay.jpg

@Seamanjive As far as I know, only the first model, short and long bail, Pork pies lanterns had brass frames, the Guardsmen X246, I believe, have steel wire frames either painted, gold or aluminium colour, or later X246Bs were plated. I would suggest that the X246 Guardsman in your picture has a gold paint finish, possibly a factory finish or replicating a factory finish.
    Cheers
    Pete

That's pretty much what I'm thinking Pete. And, really, buying something where a lot of the cosmetic work has been done kind of defeats the object. I'll pass I think. Thx for your advice.

I have some guardsman lanterns with brass frames but they all have the early type bail holders, not the later, 246b style. The later style frames were gold painted steel.
