Decided to do a little backyard camping with my kids over the holiday weekend and show them how the stoves and lanterns work.

Had the rapid preheater going on the Aida 1500. Decided to give it a few more pumps and like a dunce I grabbed it by the hood. Yow! What makes it worse is my 12 year old daughter was recording the whole thing on my phone when it happened. We reverted back to the LED lantern after that. Spent the night in the tent clasping my stainless steel water bottle for relief. We reverted back to the LED lantern after that.

Ouch! What on earth made you do that? I would love to see that footage... did you utter a few choice expletives?

Next time you get burned run your hand under cold water or hold ice in it until you can't stand it any longer. It will help to keep the burn from hurting too much later.

A really good fix is a cold used tea bag applied to the area, it has to be wet and cold. The tannins in the tea help the healing process. only good if you drink a lot of tea of course and you coming from the USA... well probably not!

Do not apply any greasy substance to the burn, like butter or olive oil etc this will infect your burn and cause severe pain. just use ice or a cold pack and keep dry.

Don't be tempeted to "pop" any blistering. Let it heal and absorb by itself

Sorry if you know all this already! I hope you get better soon.

Same thing that caused me to slice open my thumb while splitting wood for kindling with a hatchet a couple of months ago - being in a rush. I'm usually pretty careful, but when pressed for time all good sense goes out the window.

Just looked at it. Nothing too bad. Also, I didn't touch it for but a tiny fraction of a second, seemed much longer in my memory.

Thank you. And yes, I had it immersed in a container of ice water before retiring to the tent.

I can lend you my Eye Brand lamp...... done right you could have a 'eye brand' in your hand, I'm sure you'll be able to make out the logo from the hood once the swelling subsides

@Rich_S , you are still lucky looking at your birn marks.
To pump you normally would like to place your whole hand direct and firm on the top.

Bugger! .... that would smart some .....
Easy to do when in a hurry, just takes one little lapse in concentration.
They tell me that if you hold a glass of cold beer with the afflicted hand the pain will go away ....... after a while or 3 beers which ever comes first.
    Cheers
    Pete

It may make you feel better to know you aren’t alone - I’ve needed to change a mantle that didn’t burn in properly, got distracted, then gone to turn the thumb screw on the hood whilst still hot. Easy to have happen when there is a lot going on around you.

In retrospect this may have been a bad habit I've picked up with my Coleman's. I've probably touched the hoods while the spirit cup was burning with no ill effects. The Rapid preheater is another beast entirely. I won't do that ever again.
