Before I start Tony , a question . Am I included in your last will and testament under appendix G? Let me just say it’s great to see these scarcities coming back to life under the protection of a great custodian Keep up the good work ! The Collins Brothers is a ripper and as we’ve already discussed has a few anomalies that differ from most being the vent , preheat cup, valve knob and fount ( base rim ) Here are my two examples and to date three different fuel knobs, two different vent styles , two different founts and two style of pre heater cups have been discovered on the one model I won’t steal your thunder but let you elaborate as I appreciate the research you and others are going k Cheers
Thanks, Andrew. There is much to discover about the Collins Bros/Gloria stable. Thank you for your interest and collaboration in this quest. Matt Purtell has found some very interesting information on the Gloria/Collins Bros nexus, and this is reflected in Neil McRae's recent revisions of the "PLC" (https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/the-plc-pressure-lamp-catalogue.13642/). More shall be revealed... (after I come back from a week in the wild west coast of Tasmania). Cheers Tony
And compared to similar size lamps from other manufacturers, HEAVY ! @Tony Press if you don't have, or can't find, an original glass, one for a Petromax 835 fit's nicely in the reflector. Henry.
Well, it’s a noisy bastard. Here working with a 500cp test mantle. I’ll swap a smaller mantle on to it now that it’s working properly. Cheers Tony
@JEFF JOHNSON It is in pretty good condition. I’m taking it apart to clean, and to de-rust the steel nuts and bolts, but hopefully I don’t have to do any serious repair or paintwork. It’s has many small nuts and spring washers, so I’m making sure I take lots of photos so that I can put it all back in the right places. Tony
I’m falling in love with this heavy monster. Lots of parts, but logical assembly. This lamp is in good condition and appears to be little used. I’m slowly working through cleaning it and treating the rusty nuts and bolts. I want to keep it as close to “cleaned as found” as I can, but there will a few things that need treatment. I’m aiming for it to be something you’d expect that was maintained and released from the quartermaster’s store. Cheers Tony
Who is a happy boy, then? This is a fabulous lamp. It’s the heaviest, and brightest, lamp I’ve come across... I’m looking for a rig to set it up on my veranda so it’s up high. I’ve to get some portrait shots, and then sort through the many photos I took while pulling it apart and putting it back together. It should be in the Gallery by the end of the week. Cheers Tony
What a fantastic project. Congratulations on the first light, she looks great. Cheers Pete @Tony Press
@Tony Press Looking GOOD ! Yes, they are heavy, I'm glad I got mine when I did. Goodness knows what it would cost nowadays to get something that weight back to the old country. Henry.
Henry When I’m doing my photshoot on it later today, I’ll fill it a weigh it. Cheers Tony @Henry Plews
I realised I've got too many photos of this rig. So I'm still sorting through them. In the meantime... Cheers Tony
The Gloria 400 is now in the Reference Gallery here: Gloria 400 (Australia) The fettle of it is here: Gloria 400: Full breakdown, fettle, and re-assembly. Cheers Tony
Next cab off the rank: This is exactly as I found it, and it certainly doesn’t look like it has been repaired, fettled, or modified. Cheers Tony @Mackburner
