    Possibly...

You need to read the bits in red on the File Manager page and do what it says. Then the images will appear in your post instead of everybody having to click on them to see them... :D

I'm not sure what your lamp actually is - possibly a 'marriage' to resemble a TL14 or somesuch. I've seen that tank on PL56 lanterns but I don't recall it on the table lamps and the extra hole in the base-rim has me wondering.

    Someone will definitely know, though...

I've alerted the Mod Team and one of them will be able to add the images to your post. Hope that helps...

OK, well this is a forum as the title suggests - Pressure Lamp Discussion Forum. The galleries are similarly titled to show what they are.

My preference is for full-size images over thumbnails - mainly because they can be seen and the text read at the same time, otherwise you're clicking between the two and viewing them separately, which can be a bit of a pain.

Mind you, I'm probably not the best person to advise about anything beyond the basic...

Thanks Kenny they are my thoughts , it is just the slotted grooves around the lower rim , thats the bit throwing me , i have had it a couple of years , it stands me a tenner , the cock is a rare thing as well , as to getting the rest to make it into a CL72 , no chance , cheers for now

Hi the slots around the bottom is just someone trying to modified it but well worth a tenner
i think it will be almost impossible to get the rest so maybe you could try and finish it as some sort of table lamp,,,,that's what i would do ,,

    cheers kenny..

It is the tank from a CL72, but some adjustment must have been made to the recess where the control cock screws in.

Because the CL72 tank, has the same size of recess that the wall lamp tank has.

Perhaps you could remove the control cock and photograph the recess.

If the tank has the standard size of recess, then it's possible that this is a WW2., Tilley cobble together, I have seen some odd Tilley combinations from that period, it's a possibility anyway, Jeff.

I am adding more pics , the two holes for the handle do not look out of place , where as the slots could be an aftermarket thing

That tank is assymmetrical and surely isn't from a CL72, is it? Why would it have the tapped hole at the top?

What about an R2 bowlfire? Does that have a handle at the back? Just looked - , so that's out...

Hello David, you are correct, it cannot be an R2 tank, because that tank has 2 control cock recesses.

The recess in this tank is the standard control cock recess, the CL72 fitting would not fit into that recess.

In my opinion, this was made in the Tilley factory, perhaps during WW2., shortages, or it could have been made by a Tilley employee, who wanted his own design of lamp, a long burn TL13/14, (short table lamp).

If any more examples of this lamp turn up, then it will be a previously unknown model, time will tell, Jeff.

Hi all well this looks wierd and of course we are all guessing on this one i think. I reckon its a home made job short handlamp type, think made from a PL55 TANK LAMP. Its a standard pl55 type tank early one i should think the holes have been drilled later and the bush for the top handle hole has been done after, the solder job is not that great, the tapped hole is not central and its badly placed on the tank a bit higher would be better ie not on the bend in the tank
The handle could well be same as on this early TL13 similar style just rebent?
    http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/96
On all later tilley heaters\lamps post 1928ish the handle is held in the left hand and the pump is on the right see R1 heaters TLs so on this item you have to pump with your left hand handle in the right tilley was not making stuff this way by then so also makes me think homemade.
Nice early preheater attachment bits 1934ish and i think its a early pump with one hole in the bottom, still a tenner well spent there
Course all this is guesswork and my opinion anyone one else any ideas?

    cheers pete

Cheers Pete for your thoughts , i just cannot except it was ever a PL tank , i have had a magnifying glass allover it , there was never anything to take the 2 post , as for the soldering it is superb and doubt any modern crafts person could do it , my gut feeling is the tank came out the factory like that , i cannot say that about the rest , but i am open to suggestion , cheers for now

Ok whatever all guesswork it is a PL55 tank tho has never had the handle on it hence no posts, maybe done by someone in the factory, could well be.
That single tapped bush the central hole is not in the middle of it this would have been made on a lathe hard to get it offset like that i bet!!!

Hi, im with Pete here it is homemade and i think the top hole is drilled off centre a bit
hap- hazzerd cant be a pl55 tank i still think its a CL71 made with bits of other lamps ,,handle home made too? the centre hole could have been re-tapped
    however i could be wrong :) :) but i think not. :D/

gazluka PM me if you want the size for the cl71 arm

    kenny,

    cheers kenny...

Hello, here is my twopence worth, I would keep that lamp as it is, because it's much more interesting that way and it has been well made, it would be a shame to change it.

I would restore it to working order and fit it with a gallery and globe, but it's up to you of course, Jeff.

Well, if I may quote Jim Dick's book:-

Page 60 "Chandelier Lamps CL71, CL72 - A hanging two-burner chandelier lamp using the larger 2.5 pint tank also seen on some PL lanterns..."

Page 74 "R2 A two-burner radiator, the R2 was offered in 1931. It featured... ...the 2.5 pint large 'CL' type brass tank."

So that's what the tank is, although, for various reasons, it can't be for any of those models.

Maybe it was from some sort of prototype Tilley were developing such as a long burning table lamp or single burner radiator.

Where's Neil when you need him? - probably been poring through all his Tilley catalogues for the past couple of days!

Thanks again for all your help and advice , i sent Neil the pics back in Feb but never got a reply , he is maybe giving it a wide berth , didnt the R2 have double burners coming out the top of the tank ? and this has the pump and safety v/v opposite each other , as opposed to next to each other like on the R2 , Im liking the idea of giving it a gallery and globe , but then this has buttons on the burner , dunno , going back to scratching my head , cheers all for now

Do you think the holes / grooves around the bottom of the tank tell us that it has been on some sort of stand at some time in its life ,

Hello, it's certainly possible that the tank was fastened to something, those holes had to have a purpose.

Those are PL., air buttons, which are on that burner and if you want to use them with a gallery, then just fit the bottom half of a gallery, but if you do that, you will still be able to fit a globe but not an opal shade. Jeff.
