If it is made after 1990 it is made in China and it has a 6-digit manufacturing code on the bottom of the tank.
It is not a date code.

A German lamp should be marked on the tank with "Regd Made In Germany". I believe the Chinese lamps are marked Regd Germany. I don't know how reliable that is though. ::Neil::

 

If it has a 10 point star, and a 4digit number ending with 7 or 8, it is likely from Portugese make by Hipolito.
From the 90ties.

Chinese make have a 11 point star and no or 6 digit number.

 

I must correct what I wrote previous, it shall be ”after 1999” and not ”after 1990”.
In year 2000 the manufacturing moved to China.
