She's a beauty and a beast both  Very bright indeed, even in daylight but surprisingly quiet.
The quality and precision engineering was very noticeable when I was working on it. Built like a tank.
The 236 looks and feels puny in comparison.

@phaedrus42 Is the glass original to the lantern? Doesn't look like a 220 glass, it looks like it would be too large.
That's a big honker!! Does the party you bought this lantern from have another one by any chance?[-o<

Worded that poorly: is the glass original to the lantern? A 220 glass looks like it would be too small for this lantern.

The glass may well be original yes. It is a standard 220 size. The fount is wider and taller than a 220 or 236 fount and the vent is much bigger too. The underside of the vent is white enamel and it acts as a reflector.
There is almost no shadow under the lantern when it hangs above a table.

    Wow! With a capital “W”.
Congratulations on a very fine lantern. It looks to be well if not over engineered, just like I like them.
    Enjoy
    Cheers
    Pete

    Excellent!

    You’ve done well, Phil.

I (think) I’ve got a 238B in the shed. I should take a look at it.

    Cheers

@Tony Press , you will enjoy the 238B. It is a quite different design to the A but they are powerful and reliable. You could consider making an alcohol pre-heat cup for it, it makes it easier to burn in a new mantle.

    Phil

Indeed I am a great fan of the alcohol pre-heater over the blow torch.

    Cheers
