Our two cats are not this fond of Petromax.
How comes that yours love it?
How did you train them to have no fear about the hissing machine??

Hi group,
This cat is already 17 years old now !
And just as old ladies.. they love a nice and warm place to sleep or just sit down.
It could be just a Petromax ( here is another picture of her ) but she loves also the heath of my old tube equipment ( I’m also a licensed HAM radio operator , callsign PE1IOC )

Perhaps your cats do not fancy that you are giving too much attention to your Petromax instead of them?
Not all cats are too bothered by lanterns' hissing.

The cat and kitten are not exactly my pets. They are strays that came out of nowhere and happen to stay with me for the moment.
