Hi, I was rooting around the loft earlier for the Christmas decorations and came across this Petromax 829 in bits that I want to service and get running again. The pump is something I've not seen before as it doesn't have a leather cup (I've never used it) so I thought I would pick folks' brains on what it is and whether it is something that the previous owner cobbled together or is a genuine part so to speak?
Yeah plug on the Christmas lights, it’s easier. That’s the style of pump the later Chinese Petromax lamps had I think. They work, but not very well. I changed mine for the standard leather cup design.
It's a genuine part. I don't know when they were introduced and have no experience of them. Pistons complete with O rings or just the O rings, are available here Petromax Spares Price List Henry.
Yep, found the decorations, just need to find the will to go buy a tree and stick them up Thanks for the advice, I'll swap it for a standard version. Also there is this sort of metal ring on the base plus a number stamped on it. Again, never seen this ring before!
You got a O-Ring-type pump which was a standard part of newly (Chinese-made) Petromax lanterns. Some of them do actually work, most will not do reliably. So they changed to the simple leather cup version again. You will be able to find the single parts in a number of shops, spare parts #45, #46, #47. Better off working with the Christmas lights! This style pump is worthless, in my opinion. I could never get mine to work correctly.
I unscrewed my pumps on these style of lamps and use pressure adapters , that screw into the font use a schrader valve connection ... foot / hand pump ... easy best thing ever for me anyway.. now whether you will get one from Amazon for Chrimbo is another matter .. good luck https://www.amazon.co.uk/Petromax-5...ocphy=1007179&hvtargid=pla-613848795112&psc=1
