Here is my example of this lantern, the build quality is excellent and the light output is great.

The filler cap was missing, so I have used an Anchor filler cap/pressure gauge, it does the job.

    I fitted a Solar 500cp., mantle, Jeff.

    Great lantern Jeff!
These arent the most aestetic lanterns to the eye in my opinion, but as you say: they give out a fantastic light when they work properly.
Some of my absolutely brightest lanterns is of this family.

Thanks Christer, this one is even brighter than my Petromax 500cp., lanterns.

Optimus were building robust lanterns even in the 1970s! Jeff.

OOOOPS! You goofed on the description! This is a 550. The 1550 has a rapid heater. I really want one of those to complete my collection of Optimus rapid models. Hard to find in good condition. But I will keep looking.
