Was out and about delivering Christmas cards this afternoon. You can imagine my response when these two lamps were offered to me! The BR49 is in excellent original condition under the dust with the original paint mostly still there on the cage and bail. Date marked for 1960 (12560). The PL53 is also original, though there is a repair to the bottom of the fount. Both globes are missing and the PL has a nasty aluminium pump. It really does feel like Christmas!
Father Christmas has been to you @BigStevie Merry Christmas to you and your family. Enjoy the day and have a few quiet ones for me ..... Cheers Pete
Nice to give some hospitality to a couple of new friends The BR may be a little older...... Dec 56 with the 0 as the additional letter of unknown reason
You mean someone just randomly said 'Here Stevie, please take these, I don't want them any more' ? You're one lucky so and so!
@AussiePete once I found 5he lamps, that was my Christmas fulfilled! @ColinG Not quite, I traded them for a couple of old blow lamps. Still a good deal in my estimation! The PL53 is really a parts lamp. @KAB 1956 makes more sense, I wasn’t aware of the erroneous zeros! Christmas to all, Stevie
Tilley added letters before and after the date numbers, unfortunately the why and their meaning is currently lost in history
Hi guys, so what do you reckon the best place is to find another pre-heater (just the stopcock valve with pre-heater unit without the whole lamp)? been looking for ages but no luck...
@Alex74 Other than sourcing and buying a lantern junker with the parts you need the only other option, I can think of right now, is another collector may have the parts you need. Good luck, keep looking something will turn up eventually. Cheers Pete
