Hi all here is a spanish table lamp named MAXIMUM (patented in Barcelona) This is the same as Conny's Acteom lamp Gasoline lamp. I think 200/250 CP But who is the maker ? Focus ? this lamp has needed a long and difficult work here are the before pictures : no burner plate, the wood handle is burned, and mostly, the generator is split all around. this generator will fall in several parts when I tried to soldered it. we have redone a wood handle on a wood lathe Conny sent me a schéma of the iron plate. I copied with some difficulties because of the necessory folds, but here it is. Thanks Conny the great difficulty was the generator ! No other solution than do a new one with a brass tube of the good section. A friend of mine is an artist, Look at the result ;-)
@Michel Through your skill and perseverance you have rescued, resurrected, this lamp for enjoyment of the now and the future. Congratulations and well done. Cheers Pete
Excellent restoration, Michel! A beautifully elegant design in its simplicity. And perhaps prior art for Mr. Preston's loop patent?
@Michel , was there any asbestos stuffing in the vaporiser tube? I notice there is an air release screw on the fuel cap and a large alcohol pre-heat bowl. Could this lamp perhaps run on kerosene? The loop design should allow enough heat transfer from the mantle to sustain vaporising kerosene. I have no idea whether kerosene was available in the place and time that this beautiful lamp was produced.
@phaedrus42 The generator was empty when I inspected it and I do not see how we could install any asbestos filter (or we could not change it) The generator is in one piece and it is very long, from the nozzle to the bottom of the tank. yes, kerosene was available at that time, I think I could try
I don't know who made this and the Acteom lamps. I suspect not Focus because are their lamps are marked as made in Badelona not Barcelona so this is perhaps more likely to have been made by Casa Klaebisch who were another Barcelona manufacturer and did make a tank in the same style. And yes I do know Badalona is in Barcelona but it is rather how the lamps are marked Focus-Badalona and Klaebisch-Barcelona. ::Neil::
Hello Neil I am in contact with a Spanish collector about these two lamps he opened a blog here: Rasgando la Oscuridad. Lamparas de Presión: FOCUS For Maximum we haven't found anything yet. But he sent me a little flyer from Acteom about a bath heater. I deduce (perhaps a little quickly) that Acteom is indeed the brand of a manufacturer of heating and lighting equipment. Unfortunately the traces left by this firm are very rare on the Net. Juan tells me that after the Spanish War and World War II, Spain was ruined and very isolated politically. It no longer had much access to German production destroyed by the bombing. There was internal production, often based on the plagiarism of foreign patents.
Standard-licht claimed this patent US1658081 Espacenet - Document original the Spanish had agreements with German firms, I think this patent was copied by who ? mystery
Hi Michel, If you look at my Acteom lamp post in feb. 2019, you can see that I have already made that Fezer patent connection…. I think the original patent is the Fezer (Standard Licht) patent and the Spanish company/companies made a copy of that burner; just saying…..
