These are all the Kayen models I have seen in catalogues. What's shown are a mixture of Kopsen and Nettlefolds. (Not including variations)
@Anthony Very nice! It’s interesting to see the opal shades on the table lamps (I’ve not seen these before).
Pete, the restoration was solely for the photo. All the shiny tanks have been removed and the nice patinated ones with decals, and I think a redbacks nest, are all back on the shelves. Just how it should be.
Anthony, are these opal shades Kayen? They look just like pre-war Tilley ones and I like how they look with the domed insect guard.
Yes Jean, they are Kayen. I think the Tilley ones have more of a lip on the edge to be able to tie tassels too. The globes I have do have a lip but not much.
@Anthony Wow.. Stunning ! I knew about the lanterns but didn't realise there were heaters and floodlights... You mention Nettlefolds.. are they connected in anyway to the Nettlefolds of GKN, at all? Regards, pb
D’you mean a beaded fringe Anthony? I often fancied putting one on an opal lampshade. I wonder if anyone has seen a shade with original beading?
@Antony Thanks for that, I read the article in the reference library and i will keep digging. There is a whole different world of lamps where you guys are (perhaps it's the same for every country?) ; fascinating how things are/were connected. Many thanks, pb
I do mean a beaded fringe Jean. I didn't like the word tassel either but I was being lazy. I came across a bag of beads some time ago but the threads were too brittle to hold together. May have been from a Tilley or something else. The glass beaded fringes are still available. As an example look here.* *If anyone does follow up this link, the condition is that you must post your results on the forum
@podbros if you want to look into the Australian lamp history the site is a must. Trove You should do searches on words and brands from your neck of the woods too. You will find things that will surprise you. Keep us informed.
I was probably once classified as “bearded fringe”, but, honestly, I was, and still am, unable to grow a proper beard... Tony
VERY COOL, all of them, i do like shiny , but i like better original with a Redback, very nice display
.. New years day i went down a local hostelry with some friends.. Every year they have The Mersey Morris Men there, good crowd.. very entertaining.. that was a kind of bearded fringe? pb
