Another one found. I'm open to suggestions on how to best clean and then preserve the water-slide decal.
That original decal is beautiful but how you clean it... that's a tough one. Cotton wool with a mild detergent and wipe it gently perhaps? If that works it would be nice to seal it underneath a protective coat of something but you'd need to test it on a tiny portion to make sure it doesn't dissolve it!
I am very glad that such a rare lantern ended up with someone who will appreciate and take care of it, congrats Phil.
Wow, that’s a nice find and the decal is a real beauty. What @ColinG has already suggested seems to be the only way that I can see. First, if you haven’t already done so, take heaps of detailed close up photos of the decal. Enjoy the fettle. Cheers Pete
I’ll just be girlie and say that I love that blue hat! Should look stunning when cleaned up. Nice find.
Ditto what Jean said... maybe it's my feminine side showing!? I missed a couple of AGM Ready Lite277s with pretty blue bonnets on eBay. The pair of them sold for only £25 - I was gutted! This was them... Hopefully a member bagged them!
I decided to be rather conservative with the cleaning and after lightly cleaning the paint with Meguiars metal polish, I applied some auto wax for protection.
