I picked up this Tilley table lamp this morning (?TL10) and congratulated myself on the purchase and couldn't wait to get home, check it over , change washers etc and hopefully get it going. The seller said that it was one of her late grandmother's collection of lamps. At home, all looked good. The pricker handle turned nicely and so I lifted off the burner and globe I unscrewed the vaporiser but no pricker needle. The vaporiser seems heavy and i slid off the insect guard and the vaporiser came apart, a lighter , hollow bottom section and a heavier upper half. The upper section was a solid metal bar, complete with manufacturing marks, but interestingly it seems to have been scorched at some stage, whether to disguise it's true nature, or for effect, or by some enthusiastic previous owner trying to light it. Thus i require a real vapouriser and this post relates to my previous post re Asian vaporisers... any recommendations? Regards
@seajay That vapouriser is a new one for me. It looks like someone did a workshop job on it. The eBay vapouriser I think is best has the steel (not brass) tube. But... I do have some Tilley New Old Stock 606 and 169 vapourisers... Being an Aussie, the postage won’t be a killer. Cheers Tony
The vapouriser looks like a bloke hit the roof one time because he couldn't get fuel through and decided to do something about it. That globe is probably the nicest looking globe I have ever seen on a Tilley.
Hi Anthony No jet ..no vaporiser. It's just a section of solid metal bar. Matty, the globe is pretty, so all is not lost. Steel it is, Tony. Thank you for your kind offer. Not sure how I will proceed as yet. Caveat emptor! Regards
Looks like it was modified to be able to exhibit the lamp with the fantastic globe, a shelf queen. A new Tilley style generator, seals and a preheater will have it running again in all its glory. Cheers Pete
I reckon you’re right @Tony Press but is one hell of a good looking piece of glass though. I reckon it has a Korean flavour. Cheers Pete
Probably a gas lamp globe. The Tilley gallery was designed to be the same size as a standard gas gallery so these old gas globes will fit. The problem is that often they don't like the heat from a Tilley mantle and can fail in use or with the uneven heat from the pre heat torch. So they can look good for display but better not used on a working lamp. ::Neil::
