I'm not sure what the correct collective noun is for lanterns but for now I'll stick to a 'Truth' of them. (TeHe) The two brass/gold models belong to me and the nickel plated one will be going to the US for a new life with @Norman His has a genuine Superb globe but there was no way I'd risk lighting it with it in place. I've already had one smashed Superb globe delivered to me and I don't want to be the cause of another. I have a new nickel plated Superb waiting for me in Surrey which I'll hopefully pick up soon.
@ColinG Now that’s a truely great shot and in truth I can’t for the life of me see why some have difficulty in running these fine lanterns. I suppose the truth will come out. Excellent light up, well done. What glass did you use on the middle one, it looks really good frosted? Cheers Pete
Boy, oh boy, adventures in paradise! Beautiful!! I don't have one single Superb lantern like these... Nice!
@ColinG Damn those are very good looking indeed. This is also a very nice light up with the Superbs running superbly. I'm with @AussiePete in stating I can't figure why some have problems with these Veritas lanterns. Thanks for sharing this wonderful light up with us. Cheers, Norman
Thanks guys, it was fun getting them all lit together! The frosted glass was sent to me from the US by @Norman and it makes a pretty good stand in for an original globe. It's roughly 10mm shorter than the original but you can't actually see it plus it allows you to lift the globe enough to prime the pre-heat cup with meths/denatured alcohol. If I get my new nickel plated Superb home before I send Norman's to the States, I'll try for a four way line up!
@JEFF JOHNSON I have 2 Veritas Superbs and 1 350A and all 3 light and run without fuss or any concerns. Cheers Pete
Jeff, I have had the opportunity to own a Veritas a couple of times but have declined because I have read that they are a lot of trouble to run. I can't recall ever seeing a specific reason given as to why they cause so much angst. Would you - or anyone else - mind explaining what trouble you encounter with the lamps?
Oddly enough, I've just posed the exact same question in another post! Like you, @Matty I avoided Veritas like the plague for exactly the same reasons.
Maybe it's just dumb luck.... Some can get these lanterns to burn without a problem, others can't. My father-in-law owned a 1962 Dodge that had an emergency brake that had brake pads that gripped the drive shaft instead of the back brake drums. He swore by that method, but everyone else swore at it. He thought it was great but the majority ruled and Chrysler bumped it! Bottom line, "whatever floats your boat"! If you have good luck with the lantern stick with it. Listen to what others say but make your own mind up.
This link shows a previous discussion about Veritas Superb lanterns, the Veritas 350 lanterns are usually easier to fettle. Some examples of both lanterns do appear to function well enough. Veritas Superb fettle
@ColinG If you copy & paste Enginevids into the search bar on YouTube and do a little exploring (many vids of various stationary engines), you'll come across this Veritas "Superb" Pressure Lamp Henry.
