Nice find this weekend, a pork pie with original but tatty box. More interesting though is a original paper instruction leaflet for a mark 1 pork pie guardsman. Can't be many survivors in this condition so I'll be looking for a frame to keep it alive a bit longer
Yes, definitely looking for a long narrow picture frame to keep this in the same condition it is now, shame to hide it in a book just to keep it flat.
Be nice to PDF these and have them for members to download? or maybe that's something that's already been done and I haven't spotted it?
Very nice find @Keith Warby . The lantern should clean up nicely. The instructions are in good condition and it would be great to see them in the " Lamp reference Library "
There is one posted in the library. https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/tilley-246-pork-pie.12163/
Hi Keith, that’s a cracking lantern, just the way I like to find them! I do like to see originality....
I was debating whether to put a replacement cap on to tidy it up but it takes away the originality of the lamp, you wouldn't find a 70 year old lamp with a new shiny top. Think I'll keep it as it is with a light clean and service. More pictures to follow when she's up and running.
You might consider buying a new 'user' cap and preserve the original as the heat/cool cycle will gradually ruin the old one if you intend using it. Beautiful old lamp though, what a find!
