The auctioner Jeffry Evans have just opened the bidding for the auction on the 28th this month of the lamps from the workshop of Fil Graff. https://jeffreysevans.hibid.com/cat...al-19th-and-20th-c--lighting-update/?cpage=13 The intersesting GPAs are on page 13 of the auction list. There are some interesting and rather uncommon pieces. ::Neil::
Yes St Thomas PA. He is still with us but Fil has Alzheimer’s and lost all memory of the lamps. This is the second auction of his vast collection. The earlier sale saw quite a few lamps sell for well below value probably because the enlightened community in general was not aware of the sale. I am hopeful that his wife Robbie will do rather better this time. ::Neil::
@Mackburner Neil, real heartbreaker... My sister has Alzheimer's and most of the time she doesn't even know me....
It's a great opportunity to have not only great stuff but lamps owned by Fil Graf. We can't forget his contribution to the lamps collectors community. I guess many of us miss a lot the Lamp Guild.
Neurological degenerative diseases are a real bastard. So cruel to all involved. I hope one day they’ll have either preventive and/or curative medicines. Pete
Aman to that, Pete My sister was diagnosed with it about eight years ago. She just continues to slip more and more... She's three years younger than me and a hellva lot smarter. She was always way ahead of me in school. Her husband, one of my best friends, died back in '99. She had no children so the task fell to me and my wife to see to her needs. A lot of expenses come out of my pocket since her monthly retirement doesn't even began to cover the living/elder care facility. What makes it hard is the wife and I have so many physical problems we find it hard for us just to get around let alone take care of her needs, too. But I wouldn't change anything. This is a task I have been given and thank God I have an angle for a wife! She backs me all the way and without her, I would be lost. Enough said, back to more pleasant things!
Fil was founder and owner of the Guild which sadly ran out of funds and interest in the web site died off. We did incorporate it and I was one of the directors but that company registration has ended too. In some ways the spirit of the Guild is still alive as those of us interested in pressure stuff are still in touch and still researching. For me the biggest losses were the Q&A forum and searchable patent data base in the Guild web site. ::Neil::
@Mackburner Yes, Neil I thought the Q&A portion of the Guild was great! Lots of good stuff there! I really enjoyed that section a lot. Missed it when it left the airwaves, so to speak. In fact, if memory serves me, I bought your very early book thru the Lamp Guild.
In way the Q&A page lives on here. Is it ever considered to put the content of the Q&A and patent base on line here ? As a sub category. Edition: I just checked and there is a copy, which is working of dec. 11 2016. Search for Lighting Patents So if nobody of the Guild founders made a backup there is always this way to get information back. The waybackmachine is the backup of the internet so to say. Not all links and relations are backuped. Sounds a noble job during two weeks at home to get a working copy attached here. Also the original site is still on line and not selling drugs any more. As far as I can see and my scanner also doesn't warn for viri, malware etc. Edition2: the about us page is compromised.
I wish I could attend, I wish I was well off, I wish I could own some of these lamps! What a rare opportunity for pressure lamp lovers.
