    just picked up this new arc lamp 005.JPG unidentified arc lamp-- any one know what it is?? no markings on it-- thanks !!

    I saw an article from 1899/1900 (I can't think of the exact year but it was one of them) that stated that an inventor sold the rights to his gravity lamp for $10,000 plus royalties. I thought that was a heck of a lot of money back then. I'd bet houses were only a couple of thousand dollars and way cheaper than that in the country areas.

    I have one of the gravity lamps so it was pretty cool seeing that article.

    I do hope you can find the double mantle burner but I don't think that is going to be easy. From a practical sense, I'd be going with a single burner until you locate a double one.

    Clearly pressure lamps depreciate more than mandolins! Last year, I bought a 1913 Gibson mandolin. After adjusting the price for inflation I found I’d pretty much paid precisely its 1913 retail price!
