I decided to build myself a wooden ‘totem’ for the garden, to hang lamps on at night. So far I’ve assembled the base and central post. I’m now waiting for 4 cast iron brackets to arrive by post. I shall attach them at different heights along the post to give a staggered light effect. This is ‘totem’ 1 if the 2 I intend building. I’ll keep you posted on progress.
Now that’s a good idea, great for BBQs and family get togethers. It’s portable too. Good one @Alex74 Cheers Pete
I like your Totem pole @Alex74 , good effort. Lamps in the summer, bird feeders in the winter perhaps? (or just lamps all year round!)
Ohh... lamps all year round. I have a bird feeder so no bird allowed on the totem!! Grrrr! Here’s the final result after application of 4 sturdy cast iron hangers (rated to 15 kilos each) and a spray of black satin paint to the brackets of the base....
Spot on, great idea, well executed and a nice collection of lanterns as well. I like the cast iron hangers, where did you get them from?
Got them from Amazon. They come as a pair in 2 different lengths, 6 and 15 inches. I got the latter. They’re getting brighter!! This arrangement seems to be effective to light up the entire garden too.
Thanks @Alex74 for the bracket info. Re getting brighter - there is plenty of light being cast there. You've got me thinking how I light up my garden!
I had two designs in mind and chose this basic one in the end. The fancy one involved a taller (8 foot instead of 6) cylindrical wooden pole with a spiral of brackets running down 3/4 if its length. In that way up to 8 lamps could be suspended at once, creating a pleasing artistic effect. I might still build it if I have time.
