    Hi everyone,
    New member here.
    I was wondering if there is anywhere in Australia to purchase vapourisers for Tilley X246 lamps?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers Michael

    Yes... which variation; and how good is the one you’ve got?

    Hi Tony,
    I'm after the 606 vapouriser. I actually need 2 to restore a couple of lamps. One is my fathers he bought in around 1958. Still have the original box and instructions etc. I would like to restore it as the vaporiser has pretty much rusted out.

    Thanks Stevie. Will do. I love the old Tilleys. Many memories of using them camping many years ago and taking them fishing and prawning etc.

    As Stevie requested here are some images of my rogues gallery of lamps. The one on the right I know nothing of other than it has Alladin on the pump knob.
    If you are wondering what the hood is second from right, I made that myself out of aluminium many moons ago when cash was tight.

    Haaa, thanks Wim. Yes I picked those up of my uncles farm a few years ago. Just a few but they look really cool. Just like old stuff I guess.

    @Zigfire

    A nice start to the collection, Michael. :thumbup:

    The Aladdin on the left is an Australian made Aladdin 1A. They are a good, quiet and reliable workhorse. Relatively easy to work on.
    But the brass tanks (founts) are susceptible to stress cracks. Is the tank brass or steel?

    The hood on the 3rd lantern LHS looks like it belongs to the earlier Tilley 246 'Pork Pie' (The yellow enamel steel hood cap is missing).

    Plenty of photos in the reference gallery.

    Some good Tilleys there, nice you’ve got some boxes too. Also plenty of space for more lamps!

    Thanks Martin. I'll check the gallery out. Not sure if the Alladin tank is brass or steel as it's been painted. I'll need to check. Cheers

    @Zigfire

    Keep a fridge magnet in your workshop. ;)

    You have a 1949-1954 X246 there with the earlier version hood (first photo, third from left).

    Cheers

    Welcome from Toowoomba Queensland.
    Nice start to your collection, however, these buggers are veracious breeders. Pretty soon you'll have more of the little buggers filling your shed.
    Bye the way, I like your metal bench top, stainless steel?
    Cheers
    Pete

    Thanks Peter,

    Yes they do breed. I thought I had only 4. When I checked I had 7, go figure.
    Yes the bench is stainless, but like all horizontal surfaces it gets covered in crap just like any other. Had to clean it up for the photos, otherwise I would have been too embarrassed to post.:oops:

    Cheers

    Hi Anthony, will do.
    Yes the hood on lamp 6 I made myself years ago. Pretty sure I made the cage on lamp 2 at the same time, just a bit unsure, however it is definitely home made.

    Cheers Michael
