    Hi all,

    My son has just started scouts and has been given his grandfathers old Tilley lamp. There are no identification numbers on it Screenshot_20200406-084042_Gallery.jpg and I'm struggling to see what model it is as I would like to service it and replace the washers/seals etc. Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks Charlie

    Welcome Charlie. Your sons lamp is a Tilley model 246b.
    There should be a number stamped in the bottom of the tank that will tell you the month and year of manufacture.
    Washer kits are available at The Fettle Box. Have fun!

    Hello @charliet and welcome to the world of presure lamps
    Your Tilley X246B is a good starting point, easy to use and relativity simple to maintain. A new set of seals and it should be good for many more years.
    Clean, polish, leave as is, its your choice as long as it doesn't leak.

    @charliet

    Welcome to the forum.

    It will be good to have it working again and hopefully we will see some action shots soon.

    Welcome @charliet from Queensland Australia.
    Enjoy the restoration and I hope that the lamp bug will bite.

    Hi Pete,
    Thanks for your kind welcome..yes I will and it will be nice doing it with my 8 year old son! I also love the fact that this lamp which was well used by his grandpa will get used by my son on his scout trips and his children after.
    Take care and stay safe down there
    Kind regards Charlie

    Welcome abroad. The spare parts of these Tilley X246B are still quite available, at least in the UK, should you need any. Happy fettling.
