This is an Aladdin 1A that was once owned by the Tasmanian Public Work Department (stamped PWD). The tank is brass and was painted black; now fettled and repainted. The top pump is from this lantern. It has a primus-type fitting for the pump leather. The bottom pump is from another Aladdin 1A. The assembled burner on the left is from this lamp. An identical burner from another Aladdin 1A is shown on the right: The nozzle assembly on the left is identical to the one fitted to this lantern. The ceramic nozzle is attached to the brass fitting by way of some kind of cement adhesive and then clamped in place with a brass ring. Often these are found to be very loose and the ceramic nozzle needs to be re-set with muffler putty. The ceramic and brass assembly on the right is a new fitting from Sands in Melbourne. The regulator, spindle, wheel, NRV, etc: Crown Pyrex globe: Before: The area under the cage was full of dead insects. Up and running: In daylight. In a darkened room. This is a fine example of the Australian Aladdin 1A. I replaced the tank lid washer with one punched from a sheet of 2mm viton; the NRV had a new Fettle Box 4.5mm pip and lead washer; the cleaning needle was replaced; the vapouriser (generator) was replaced with a NOS spare I had; the nozzle is original. The bail was painted with Hammerite silver, and the tank with VHT-brand black caliper paint. The mantle shown in the bottom two photos is a Peerless supplied by markds2 @www.justmantles.co.nz . The mantle in the top photo was supplied by dday. More on this lantern to come. Cheers Tony
More on the PWD Aladdin 1A: This lantern has a dark blue hood top over a dark grey vent: Testing the burner: Cheers Tony
Thanks, Bob. This fitting is fine (I haven't used the modern one); but I am working on another A1, so if your ceramic nozzle is not needed, send me a PM. Cheers Tony
Excellent fettle @Tony Press and a good descriptive record of the work involved. Well done. She’s running very well. Cheers Pete
Rather jealous, as I've just started to fettle with half an Alladin A1. My font, or is it fount, seems to be chrome. I'm after the glass, the lid, the ceramic and brass fittings etc. Just wondering where a good place in Australia for parts? Sorry to annoy!
@Damien First check that your tank does not have stress cracks. Send me a photo of your lamp and the bits that you need via a message in "Conversation". I'm sure that you can get the parts you need from TW Sands in Melbourne, otherwise I might have some spares. Tony

Damien, I try not to disturb the existing seal unless absolutely necessary. The valve can be disassembled without removing the seal. The seal can be added to if necessary using Graphite cord (as per Anthony) Graphite foil Graphite Foil Sheets Graphite powder TPFE thread sealing gas tape
Sands is unresponsive. Have they gone out of business? I've been trying for months to contact them about getting a couple of the flame spreaders for these.
