Hi all, A trade of lamps with a Polish collector gave me this Aida lamp. This lamp is identical to the Hirschhorn Aida 213 lamp, except for the shape of the font. This lamp has a more shallow font (probably the same font as on Aida 250/251) and could well be a variation of the Aida 213 lamp. Or it could be an Aida table lamp with an unknown model number. There are no Aida ads or catalogues showing the Aida 213 lamp, but a few lamps have been found with No. 213 stamped on the font. Also two French retailing companies ( Intens and Markhbeinn) have had this Hirschhorn lamp in catalogues 1926/27. These lamps have been unmarked but with the typical Hirschhorn stag logo embossed on the pump knob. So a very rare, only known example of an Aida 213? table lamp, with this type of shallow font. The lamp seemed to be in a good condition, but after the first dunk test I noticed three hair thin cracks in the brass bottom plate. I did an epoxy cure and then detected leaks from the pump. The NRV was stuck, despite three days of penetrating oil, so I hade to take it out. I had to drill out the NRV of the pump tube and replaced it. I soldered the pump back and it was OK. I fixed a new needle for the Preston gen type of burner and assembled the lamp. I don't know the exact output, but I used a 250 CP mantle. Fired her up and she gave a pretty good performance, although a bit too rich. Used the needle to calibrate gas/air ratio to get an optimal setting for the money shot. Had her running for half an hour and no problems. Production year probably late 20,s or early 30,s. @Conny C What another exceptional lamp you have presented. Beautifully presented and documented. Congratulations. Conny, the photo of the base plate. I have seen that design somewhere before but I just can't think where. It won't be on an Aida lamp that I have seen it because I don't have an Aida lamp here. The design I'm thinking of may not be exactly the same but from memory it is similar. I'm not suggesting that there is any connection between Aida and whomever made the lamp I'm thinking of I just found it interesting to see.
Thanks…. @Matty @Tony Press Yeah Tony, my Akron 92 and Evening Star P92066 (Akron heritage) table lamp has that same pattern. I think also one of my French lamp has that, but I can´t find it now. I don´t see any connection here and can´t figure out why that star pattern. Now I get it..... at least for the Evening "Star" lamp /Conny
I looked on my Kildark and it doesn't have the pattern. I don't know where my Evening Star is, I only wanted to display one of the two as they are much the same. I'll see if I can locate it in the morning. I'm guessing it will be there. I looked on 3 or 4 models of Akrons and the pattern wasn't there. Akron may have stopped using the pattern on later lamps or just used it on a couple of lamp models.
