Three lights ready this weekend, including an Optimus 300 that was really dirty. Now it lights up again :)

Fun when there is a difference

The cleaning rod was stuck, a lot of soot in the tube. Heat and violence worked

Very good light with 350cp sock. Illuminates the house in daylight

The lamp is finished, clean and nice! Unfortunately, the top is from a newer Optimus 350

You have certainly got that looking nice. Well done.

It's interesting how you sometimes see the older Optimus 300 and 300P with the later Optimus inner and outer top. I've seen quite a few over the years. I wonder why they were changed, as I wouldn't expect the top to wear out.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

The hat that came with the lamp was an Egret in sheet metal, it felt better to at least have an Optimus hat in brass so I changed it.

I agree about at least using an Optimus top. The question is why the original top was swapped in the first place. This is not the only time it has happened. I am fettling an Optimus 300 from the mid 30s at the moment and it has the same style top as on yours (though in much poorer condition).

Yes it can't just be fall damage if only the 300 model gets the hat replaced. Bad hats on that model? Just about to save a hat on a 200 that seems to have landed on its head

What a transformation! It's so pleasing when something looks so different. Good fettle!

You've got the chrome looking crisp. What's your preferred method of accomplishing this shine?

very soft buffing wheel and a soft wax, a little harder stuff if it is brass without plating. But one has to be careful, easy to go through the plating.

and my favorite when it comes to oxidation. Ketchup! :)
