"MMMMMM" Not too sure but it looks like a Frankie to me although a very nice one The copper reflector is a bit earlier than the rest of the lamp i think , a very tasty "bitsa" & no mistake Best regards Stu
I'm only a newby Al but I can't imagine Tilley fitting a copper reflector to a lamp. They did fit them to heaters as this would reflect red heat. But lamps I would expect to have a chrome reflector to reflect white light. The handle is the same as the two R1's I have. Now if you were to remove the handle and reflector and fit a plain flat bar handle and replace the glass with a 182 onion globe you would have a Tilley TL14. Like the one Hope that Helps
I'm watching to see how much it goes for. I regret that it's not in my budget even at its starting cost. I hadn't noticed the gallery being upside-down, being the Tilley-noob that I am! It is a pretty thing, and the reflector must do a nice job of moving the light as well as warming up the color up a tad. Here's a detail of the gallery:
Yes, it's a 'bitsa' - bitsa this and bitsa that... The gallery is on upside-down as Nigel pointed out. If it was the correct way round, then it might just hold up that globe as Tilley intended - not that it's a Tilley globe anyway... Just think of it as a heater/radiator with a CH1 conversion head, although there's no point in having a reflector and a translucent globe fitted at the same time. It'll work, but it won't fulfil any particular purpose, other than providing funds for the seller. Just call me Mr. Cynical...
It's a 1950's Tilley R1, (October 1956) which has been stripped of it's cream paint job and has been well polished. The reflector has either been stripped of it's plating and polished, or an earlier copper reflector has been fitted. The heater burner and wire mesh mantle and the wire guard are missing. The gallery has been fitted upside down and the glass which is not a Tilley glass, is held in place by the bug screen. It's expensive and it may not sell, but Tilley lamp gallerys can be difficult to obtain and the burner is of much better quality than the current Tilley burners. Jeff.
