Hello, I read a topic on this forum about whether there are Russian pressure lamps Are there any Russian lanterns? I am from Russia and honestly thought that there were no such lamps, but recently I accidentally bought this one. It works on gasoline and kerosene. I think that this lamp was not produced for long and in a small amount.
@gena88 A real fine looking lantern! It looks like it's been used very little. Can you tell from the literature included with the lantern where in Russia the lantern was made? I was not aware there were any Russian made pressure lanterns. I thought most were imported from Sweden. An absolutely great find!
I have a few patents taken out by Russians including this one from 1910. The years between 1900 and 1917 are likely to be the best years for Russian lamp making. The country was in turmoil from 1917 and later of course adopted Communism. It is likely that only one or two government approved lamps would have been manufactured, though I have zero proof of what I say.
The pump handle reminds me of the мотор сич stoves from Ukraine. see over there: Motor Sich PT-3 And please: a scan of the papers would be most interesting. Erik Leger
a little off-topic, my apologies, I just found a long thread on a Russian language board dating from 2012 to 2020... A variety of old lamps, of self-made items and nice videos... I do have to visit the Moscow Museum of light some time! https://www.chipmaker.ru/topic/172566/
A new one to me. I always wondered about the lack of Russian pressure lamps. I would very much like to see scans of the paper as well. Who made it and where? From the style with a Preston type generator and a cook top it has the look of a product from the 1940s or later. ::Neil::
That is interesting. But I'd have no doubts about the existence of Russian-made lanterns. Back in the Communist-ruled era, they made plenty of items that we've not heard too much about. Mostly for the domestic market. Some of them do pop-up elsewhere around once in a while. A lot of them are relatively simple, rugged yet practical. And interestingly, they're often developed and designed differently, most probably independently from the rest of the World around.
Due to the fact that the instruction in Russian is poorly read, I will try to make a short understandable translation in the near future.
I am well acquainted with this site, and from there I became aware of the existence of / classicpressurelamps / Then I looked for information on the Meteor lamp by Theodor Kreingel.
Hi @gena88 and welcome from the Scottish Highlands. That’s a very interesting lamp! Thanks for sharing. By the way, what are the model car boxes in the photo? Stevie

Coo ! Chelyabinsk Oblast ! That's a fair old way from here... In the Urals ! Do you mind me asking where you are from @gena88 ? Only it's a fairly large place your Motherland ! Thanks for the translation, by the way
Thanks for the information! If you find more of these lamps, please do tell us.... I think many here would like to own one!
I am from Stavropol, it is not a big city in the south of Russia. To the Urals, too far from here) I also wanted to say that in the USSR people used simple kerosene lamps with a flat wick If it’s interesting, I can post here photos of my other lamps and stoves.
@gena88 Yes please. Do you have any other Russian made pressure lanterns? Please post them. Thank you!
@gena88 Welcome to the forum. You have a very nice collection of lamps. Many thanks for sharing. Regards Jeremy
I found the two patents mentioned in the instruction leaflet. All in cyrilic Russian of course which I don't understand at all. The company seems to be a tractor works of some kind. Can anyone translate the company name and address please. I need to add this to the PLC and would like to get the company info correct if possible. ::Neil::
Those documents remind me about what had been prevalent during the cold war era and shortly thereafter. I like the way they were presented even though I don't understand the language. I could sense some profound knowledge contained within those papers.
The SU lamp patent refers to a 1966 French patent which refers to a 1964 US patent which does not make sense. I then searched for the name and found name, company and the matching images in patent US 3.367.149 A Sorry, I do not understand Russian so I could not find a connection apart from the numbers and names. I think @spiritburner has some very good optical translation software, but this is what Google Translate does with an image of the first bit of the patent: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics SU 1379564 (1) (31) 4_F_21 L 17/00, 19/0 State Council of the USSR for Cases of the Inventions and Openings ALL OVER DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION 13 13 K COPYRIGHT 21-12 22) 18.04.86 (46) 07.03.88.
