This was on my old Coleman 220 Slant. Wondering if it's original or not. Any help is much appreciated.

    Taken from oldcolemanparts.com

This is an original green sunrise logo globe made between 1946 and 1959. This globe will fit models 220, 228, 290, 290A, 295 and 235.

Yes, but when was the 220 Slant made?

Hope I'm not boring anyone here-220 slant had a mica chimney, 220B (and 228B) had (early ones) a blasted/etched glass globe, and (later ones) a globe that said "coleman" in a line (called the "straightline Globe").
    I THINK yours fits a 220C or 220D.

Very nice globe though, hard to find.

L220 and 220 date from 1927 to 1929. The model was replaced with 220B in 1930.

    Thank You Neil.

I have two of each, and the date on several is in question.

Well we can sort of place them in chronological order. First is L220 which used generator T88 and is the only lantern to use an internal pricker which is operated by closing the valve. You can always tell this one because if you losen the gland and remove the control wheel spindle the early ones are tapped in the end with a thread to take the pricker rod of a T88. A lot of those have had the old generator replaced with an R55 or a Q77 but the thread in the end of the valve spindle gives them away. 220 used a Q77 generator and the spindle is not threaded. Later versions used the R55 and I am not sure of the differences if any between the two. I know there is a difference in the number of ridges in the control wheel but I can't remember which is the earlier one. ::Neil::

I'm going to guess the T88 had the wheel with the fine ridges. Have one with the fine ridges and one that looks like a 242 valve wheel. The 242 equipped model had a Q77 generator, (which I disliked immensely and replaced with an R55).

Sounds about right. The Q77 may have been original to your lantern as it was used for maybe a year before Coleman replaced it with R55. I am not sure about this but I think it may even be that Coleman created the R55 for the slant burners. Pull the wheel and spindle from your fine ridge wheel one and see if the tip has a small threaded hole in the end. ::Neil::

    Neil,
I can confirm that. The lantern, an L228 dated 8 10 (October 1928?) had a Q77 generator but the fine splined valve wheel is tapped with a tiny hole. I have a pricker rod, a No. 603-638 that is made for a 603-289 iron generator. I need the outer tube and gas tip to make a complete T88. If anyone has these parts I would like to hear from you.

The second lantern (shown) is a 8 7 date code and has a 242C type valve wheel and a Q77 generator. I do not know if the valve spindle is tapped. Both lanterns are all original and almost new, including the chimneys.

    Best Wishes
