    Hi guys,

Just throwing this out there... what’s with all the silly ebay prices???

    $175 + postage for a late model, rusty 3/300?!

    Am I missing something here?!

Some sellers just have high expectations, others are hoping a sucker comes along.
As we often say they are worth what someone is prepared to pay.

It’s a mismatch of expectation and knowledge...

    Cheers

    Very true.

The rusty 3/300 also has a $50 price tag on it, visible when you zoom in, which just annoyed me even more so I’m having a moan - my wife wasn’t interested.

I saw that one and had the same reaction. But if you moaned at all the sh!tefullness on the Bay of Evil you would end up needing therapy. One needs to be “Zen” when entering the Bay...

    Cheers

Its got worse over the last six months, I think its people with no idea of prices (as most are of course) copying those collectors who sell polished and repainted lamps of all kinds (saw a rusty late tilley for over 100 GPB and polished bialaddins for 200 ) for prices that are so ridiculous it beggars belief. As for the pork pie lamps i think they compare again what they see and add more.

Its the same trend with stoves on ebay over the last six months.

A bit like UK house prices.... The same in my opinion.

In regards to Bay of Evil, I guess the price and cost are determined what someone will actually pay for an item. There is nearly always someone that will pay the stupid price and I guess that's what the sellers want, the silly buyer, the score. It's only human nature being exposed. We sometimes see that at markets and antique shows where in the morning, items appear to have inflated prices, but at the end of the day or the show, if the item is still there, the prices are much lower and the vendor very much more willing to enter a haggle.
When perusing on the Bay of all Evilness, and indeed any selling outlet, its basically "Caveat Emptor", buyer beware, and know your stuff.
    Cheers

If you were buying a house..that would be 'negative equity' and you would never get the mortgage lol..but then, many go unsold.

BIN prices on eBay range from the sublime to the super-ridiculous. I usually ignore the silly sellers.

"Sold" listings are a good source of prices, but use caution even with those. Check out the Taykit stove that sold for $1200 CAD! I know the seller, and the buyer from China never did pay. It was relisted and you'll see that it did sell for $355. That seller did pay. Why can't life be simple?!

I’ve only ever bought lamps once off the bay of evil, two 300Xs that weren’t that expensive. I did the deal because I knew I’d be passing by the sellers house the following week and wouldn’t have to pay for carriage. When I called to pick them up, the seller gave me a Guardsman with a missing globe and some odds and sods of spares. So, I guess sometimes even the bay can be kind.

    @BigStevie you did well there!

I use the bay to purchase most of my lanterns. Some have been extremely reasonably priced, others not so (but then I am not going for highly polished, refurbishments that command the high prices). What I do appreciate is the international exposure that the bay gives and allows me to explore different lanterns from different countries.

I’ve bought a lot of lamps off eBay in the past but I think I just about started before the prices went too silly. Looking back over my purchase history for the last 3 years, I’ve bought 3 lamps.
