    Evening,

i have just published my reference book on the science of fire lighting methods, on Amazon:

Fire Lighting Through the Ages – Science and Technique https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0887P6HDL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IBgVEbM1C8FGZ

Some of you might be interested in trying to light a pressure lamp using a Primitive wood friction or stone percussion technique! And you’d no longer need exercising or go to the gym. Think of all the health benefits! :-({|=

I tried to order a hard copy of you book. I got a rejection from Amazon stating that the book, being non digital, is restricted from being delivered to Australia.
Perhaps Amazon believes us Aussies can’t handle fire ......
    Buggeration.

    I had the same problem...

I think it’s because Amazon thinks we can’t read.

I’ll try ordering it through a VPN that says I’m in London.

@Tony Press let me know how you go, however its my delivery address that has stymied my purchase attempt.
I'm thinking of getting one of my lamp mates in Blighty to arrange a purchase, if I do and you're not successful in your endeavour, perhaps I can 2 books.
    Cheers

I believe since Australia imposed the 10% GST on all imported purchases Amazon won't post from other countries to Australia. Amazon refused to collect tax for the Australian government.

Congratulations Alex on having it published.

    That's a nice one, Alex.
I don't have any online payment means, which means I'd be missing that for the timebeing.

Congratulations on your publication. Two questions: 1) How long did it take you to research, write and publish? How do we get signed copies? Seriously though, hats off to you for all the hard work producing it.

    @AussiePete @Tony Press @ROBBO55 @MYN

I have never had to post any items to either Australia or Malaysia but I’m happy to have a go if anyone would like a copy.

    Regards Jeremy

    Morning guys,

thanks for the compliments and sorry to hear that Amazon restricts sales in some market areas. I wasn’t aware of that. The publisher has just put it out ‘for distribution’ in stores other that Amazon, so it may become increasingly available in the next few weeks. The colour edition is a bit more expensive but shows embers and flames much better!

Jeremy - it took approx 3 years to research and write, which I did mostly during rainy weekends. But I’ve been practicing primitive fire lighting for years, attending courses and giving demos myself. Also collecting very early and rare lighters. Being a chemist specialising in explosives, research on matches was fairly straightforward. And I can sign your copy at Newark next year if you like! I’d love to finally meet some of you in person.
Even if this book only sells 10 copies worldwide, I’d still be happy, as its something I wanted to do for a Very long time. A big tick in the box. I could have written in my native Italian, But I reasoned that would have restricted access to all English speaking countries....[-(

Now thinking of writing another titled:

    restoring vintage pressure lamps

we choose 10 of the most common vintage lamps and we provide a Step by step photographic brake down of the entire fettling process, with hints and tips on cleaning, getting parts, fuelling and firing up. We could also add a bit of history background to each model. Who wants to coauthor?

Well I’m definitely in for a colour one. Anyone else in Aussie? I can get them via perhaps Jeremy, then pass them on to the Aussies.
Now, just a thought, is it possible, coz we’re such great guys, that we could get signed copies?
    Cheers
    Pete

    Awww. Thanks guys.

I was serious about writing another book of fettling. Which models would you recommend we put in there?

    @X246A

Well it's certainly advertised as the colour version.

Because I consider Amazon to be a bunch of merchants, I always look for an alternative source.

    Henry.

@X246A and @Alex74 @Tony Press @ROBBO55 @kero-scene and any one else in the land down under.

Jeremy has very kindly offered to get and send copies for us.
I’ll be contacting Jeremy to arrange for the possible procurement of some of Alex’s coloured fire books mentioned on this post thread.

The cost ...... To you guys would be the landed book cost that covers a portion of Jeremy’s costs and the subsequent postage to you.

Please let me know by Tuesday 26 May.
    Cheers
    Pete

It depends who your taget audience is.
I would go with the more common ones as these wil probably be the lanterns new fettlers (who need some guidance) wil start with first:

    - Petromax 829 (and its clones)
    - Tilley 246
    - Bialaddin/Vapalux
    - Coleman 220
    - etc

Well, Petromax and its clones have already been well-covered by Rob Earl (of Maidstone Angling) in his book...

    Books

    and scroll down...

Ah, thanks Pete. I wasn’t aware of Rob Earl’s book. And I certainly don’t want to write a clone of that book, just to cover another few models and makes. I’ll consider choices very carefully in that case.

I’m pleased to see the colour edition is starting to appear online. Albeit not on Amazon yet...!

Did you include Pyrotechnics stuff in the book as well, Alex?
